Today is Rural Health Day! ?? Rural hospitals like Firelands Health provide essential healthcare services close to home. In 2023, we swaddled 623 babies, provided rides for 15,493 people and served 11K people through community outreach and health education. Overall, our community benefit was valued at $46.38 million. The November Volunteer of the Month is Marty Sawicki. Marti has been volunteering in the Gift Shop for more than 45 years. She is from Akron, Ohio and has lived in Sandusky for 49 years. She is married with one child. Marty worked at Akron City Hospital as a nurse for four years. Marty’s hobbies include community theatre and reading; she is also a Cavs and Guardians fan. Marty has been active in the community, serving as a past board member of the Lange Trust, the Harlequins Theatre, and the Plum Brook Country Club Ladies Auxiliary. One of her favorite memories from volunteering was the recent volunteer appreciation dinner that was Olympic-themed. The volunteers’ faces were photoshopped on Olympic athletes’ bodies, and Marty feels she has not looked that good in years. After reflecting on her time at Firelands, Marty stated that she has been blessed with many excellent memories during her volunteer years. Volunteering at Firelands has given her purpose and friends.
