??? Looking for an activity to get outside and appreciate the beauty of Marin? Join our friends at the Environmental Action Committee of West Marin (EAC) for their upcoming Birding Festival—a perfect way to celebrate spring while connecting with the diverse landscapes we call home. By exploring local habitats and learning about the wildlife that depends on them, you’ll gain a deeper appreciation for the environment we all work to protect. ??????

Join us this April for a three-day extravaganza celebrating the incredible spring bird and wildlife migrations along the breathtaking Pacific Flyway! There is something for everyone in your brood, with trips and activities for various ages and experience levels. Learn More: https://lnkd.in/gRJmu4XV Picture this: 60+ guided field events covering a range of flora and fauna, and opportunities for hiking, kayaking, art, nature writing, and more. All events are led by passionate birders and naturalists across Marin County and beyond. These events are geared to bring a broader awareness, appreciation, and stewardship of Marin and beyond. Friday Fauna Forum: Apex Predators of Land & Sea with Audubon Canyon Ranch’s Living with Lions Program & The California White Shark Project. This special gathering includes a one-hour social time with light refreshments. Saturday Social & Keynote Benefit: Keith Hansen in Conversation with Amy Tan on Backyard Birds. This special gathering includes an outdoor dinner and drinks, plus music and games. And, a FREE, public Sunday Family Fun Day in Point Reyes Station for families with budding birders (youth ages 3+), young birders (8-16), and more. But hold your binoculars; there's more! Point Reyes isn't just a haven for our feathered friends; it's a coastal hotspot for whales, elk, wildflowers, and a myriad of other wildlife. It's not just about the birds; it's about encountering the entire cast of characters in this ecological play—insects, deer, foxes, coyotes, skunks, raccoons, weasels, seals, river otters, and an array of amphibians and reptiles. And here's the cherry on top: your participation supports the Environmental Action Committee of West Marin (EAC), a nonprofit with a 53+ year legacy of protecting the unique lands, waters, and biodiversity of coastal Marin. This isn't just a weekend getaway; it's a commitment to advocacy, education, and engagement programs year-round. Since 1971, the EAC has been making waves (pun intended) with successes like protecting the Tomales Dunes at Dillon Beach, preserving wilderness at Drakes Estero, safeguarding eelgrass habitat in Tomales Bay, securing bans on offshore oil and gas development in Marin County, and so much more. Thanks to renewed funding, Marin’s most adorable seasonal workforce is getting ready to clock in for 24/7 dedication to fire prevention. That’s right, goat herds ?? will be back in action, chomping their way through overgrown vegetation and reducing wildfire risk across the county. Grazing has proven to be one of the most cost-effective and impactful wildfire mitigation strategies, and with new contracts in place, these four-legged firefighters will be hard at work in San Rafael, Marinwood, Lucas Valley, Sleepy Hollow, and beyond. At Fire Safe Marin, we consider goats our unofficial mascot—not just because they do incredible fire prevention work, but because they’re always a highlight at Ember Stomp each year! Seeing them up close reminds us of the innovative and natural solutions that make Marin a leader in wildfire resilience. Welcome back, goats! • ICYMI ? Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority (our countywide agency for wildfire adaptation) is a semi-finalist in the Conservation X Labs Fire Grand Challenge! We’re so proud to see our community’s commitment to wildfire resilience getting the spotlight it deserves. Big cheers ?? to all the innovators and communities working together to create a safer future with wildfire.

We are proud to share that our community has been selected as a Semi-Finalist in the Conservation X Labs’ Fire Grand Challenge. The Challenge team evaluated our community’s fire management efforts and our potential to co-develop and field-test fire-focused solutions, and they determined that Marin Wildfire has a strong potential to help transform how we manage and live with fire in Western North America. As a Semi-Finalist, we have had the opportunity to connect with technical applicants from across the world who submitted proposals for solutions that bring together Indigenous, rural, and place-based knowledge with technology.
