I am very excited to make this post. Since the beginning of this project, the goal of The Fire Department Coffee Rosenbauer America Disaster Response Truck has been to provide for communities affected by disasters. In my mind, that has always been the residents affected, as well as the men and women serving those communities. The equipment and items on Rescue1 are there to help protect people's dignity when they need it most. Its capabilities are there to show some humanity when people have lost everything. I had always hoped to be able to add communication and connectivity to that list of resources, and yesterday was the start of that piece. In recent responses, especially in Western North Carolina, when communications are down and internet capabilities fail, a basic human need is missing. The ability to communicate across long distances is something we take for granted, and it's not guaranteed. I've seen it firsthand. During disasters, it's crucial to be able to reach out to friends and family for comfort. It's vital to be able to request the resources we need. It's especially important that individuals from across the country don't have to worry for days that their loved ones are safe despite the disaster that's all over the news. Yesterday, we took a big step in solving that issue. I dropped off Rescue1 with Christopher Gantz at JHB Group, Inc. headquarters, and we started by talking about the project over some coffee. His team was ready to get started. Chris has a passion for this type of response and understands the need I was hoping to fill. What if Rescue1 had the capability of 4G, 5G, and satellite? What if Rescue1 was the instrument that could help restore that communication? What if Rescue1 could provide connectivity to a fire station or police station that was without? What if Rescue1 could provide a network that people could come and access on their own devices during a disaster? What if citizens could come to Rescue1 and actually FaceTime their loved ones when their community was still without connectivity? We're about to have the capability to answer these questions, and I couldn't be more excited about it. Stay tuned..... Thank you, Christopher Gantz, JHB Group, Inc. and Hypha.
