Finovate Europe 2025 at the InterContinental London - The O2, was a great opportunity to exchange ideas and explore the latest trends in financial services. It was a pleasure to contribute to the discussions and connect with industry peers. In my session, “Enabling Hyper-Personalization: Fusing Functionality, Data, and Strategic Partnerships”, I spoke about how financial institutions can better serve customers by: ?? Enhancing functionality and #reusability through #APIs for seamless integrations ?? Leveraging #data to develop a more complete customer view ?? Combining data and functionality to enable meaningful #personalization ?? The role of #AI, #ecosystems, and data in the future of financial services The discussions reinforced that hyper-personalization is not just about using data but about using it effectively—in a way that provides real value while maintaining trust and compliance. I also had the chance to listen Joris Hensen from my team on #Lending APIs, where he explored how #openfinance and #embedded #lending can create more efficient and customer-friendly credit experiences. It was a great conversation on how technology is reshaping lending. It was a pleasure to reconnect with Soner CANKO, Nick Kerigan, Greg Palmer, Brigitte Koetting, Andrew Vorster, and Rik Coeckelbergs and exchange perspectives on key industry shifts. The event also brought together many innovative companies, including: Regsearch AI, StackAI, Moonjelly, Neural Defend, and several others. Reflections from Finovate Europe 2025 Attending Finovate Europe in London was a great opportunity to catch up on the latest trends shaping the future of banking and fintech. A few key themes stood out: 1??Core Banking Modernization – The focus is on gradual, modular improvements rather than complete overhauls. Banks should seek ways to enhance their systems piece by piece. 2??AI and Beyond – Agentic AI solutions are gaining traction in finance, particularly in AI-driven decision-making. Internal AI solutions tailored to corporate memory retention for employees were also highlighted. 3??Cloud: A Double-Edged Sword – At Akbank we’ve explored or experimented with most of the innovations discussed at the event. However, the limitations on cloud adoption in our region remain a major challenge to implement. 4??Quantum-Inspired Solutions – While access to quantum computing remains limited, quantum-inspired approaches are emerging as practical alternatives. Beyond the keynotes and panels, we had the chance to meet with 20+ tech companies to explore potential partnerships. There are fintech conferences that you go because you "have" to. Then there are conferences that you go because you really "want" to. And Finovate is definitely the latter. I often describe attending Finovate events as family gatherings — ones that you catch up with old friends and meet new ones, where serendipitous hallway encounters often prove as illuminating as structured sessions. This year, I am privileged to moderate two standing-room-only AI panels in an expanded AI track — a testament to our industry's evolution beyond theoretical speculation to practical implementation. The transformation in our conversations over the years has been remarkable: from tentative exploration of possibilities and anxieties to substantive examination of real-world applications, lessons learned, and emerging horizons. And we are just at the very beginning of the journey. Now if only I could get a dollar (or pound?) every time someone says AI, I might just be able to retire. ?? Jokes aside, I am super grateful for all the genuine human connections I have been to forge here in London and with the broader Finovate family — a gentle reminder of the importance of community in our digital age.
