Exploring Innovation & Sustainability at the Finland LA28 Showcase ???????? Last week, the Finland LA28 Showcase brought together thought leaders from Finland and Los Angeles to explore innovative solutions for the LA28 Olympic & Paralympic Games. Focusing on sustainability, mobility, and smart venues, the event showcased Finnish expertise in driving innovation and fostering a more sustainable future through collaboration. The evening included opening remarks by Consul General Okko-Pekka Salmimies, and Deputy Mayor Matthew Hale, followed by a dynamic panel discussion featuring Heather Repenning (Los Angeles Metro), Lori Adams (Nokia), and Outi Valkama (Tampereen kaupunki - City of Tampere), moderated by John Penney from NextGen Foundry. Guests also engaged in meaningful networking and discovered cutting-edge solutions from Finnish companies. We sincerely thank our partners, Business Finland and CoMotion LA, for their crucial support in making this event a success. Minister of Economic Affairs Wille Rydman signed the ICE Pact MoU between Finland, Canada and the United States in Washington today. The cooperation in developing and producing icebreakers supports a resilient and competitive shipbuilding industry, capable of meeting both national and global demand for these critical assets. The Foreign Affairs Committee of the Eduskunta | Riksdagen | Parliament of Finland is currently visiting the United States, with a program centered on the U.S. presidential elections and discussions on foreign and security policy issues. The committee began its visit in Los Angeles, engaging with representatives from both major U.S. political parties to gain insights into the election landscape and gather preliminary analysis of the results. Their meetings with representatives of academia, think tanks, and political institutions covered key foreign policy issues, such as the great power competition between the United States and China in the Pacific Rim, trade and supply chains, critical technology, and U.S.-Mexico relations with a focus on immigration. From Los Angeles, the delegation will head to Dallas, where their agenda includes meetings with local authorities and politicians. They will also visit Lockheed Martin, a major player in defense and aerospace technology, and Nokia’s U.S. headquarters in Dallas. The delegation includes Committee Chairman Kimmo Kiljunen, Vice-Chair Sofia Vikman, Committee Members Eva Biaudet, Antti Kaikkonen, Johannes Koskinen, Ville V?h?m?ki, Vilhelm Junnila, and Pia Kauma, along with Committee Counsel Tiina Larvala.
