Building a wooden future ?? Wooden houses provide a quiet and healthy environment. They are also great for the climate, as timber can act as a carbon store. Finland combines centuries-old timber construction traditions with modern technologies to create architectural icons – just check out these masterpieces around Helsinki. Undersea cables may be out of sight, but they are top of mind this week at the margins of the United Nations General Assembly. Over a dozen foreign government partners gathered to announce the endorsement of the New York Principles on Undersea Cables, and to declare our collective commitment to maintaining and increasing security and resilience of undersea cable infrastructure in a globally digitalized world. These principles serve to set forth a shared global approach to ensure the security, reliability, interoperability, sustainability, and resiliency for the deployment, repair and maintenance of undersea cable infrastructure. Sixteen countries and the European Union have already endorsed these principles, and we welcome more participation to further secure connectivity around the globe. ? ? Secure undersea cable connectivity enhances our ability to exchange information globally, including in the Pacific region, and bolsters redundancy and resiliency to cable outages caused by natural disasters. Trusted undersea cable systems also support jobs and increase innovation and productivity.? Given the imperative to communicate instantly, freely, and securely, it is essential to maintain – and expand – our network of undersea cables and to do so through the use of trusted providers.? ? Working together to ensure the world’s undersea cables are resilient and secure is an example of digital solidarity in action. Together, we can achieve goals that are greater than the sum of our individual parts. ? ? The full text of the New York Principles can be found here: https://lnkd.in/eYyzUEas
