Join us *next week* on Wednesday, Sept. 18 on The University of Texas at Austin's campus for "American Compassion: The Safety Net Podcast LIVE"! We're teaming up with The LBJ School of Public Affairs for in-person discussions, and attendance is free and open to the public. ??? Register to attend ?? https://hubs.li/Q02PTdGx0 Throughout this week, we're introducing our featured panelists for episode 1. Today, we're highlighting Maninder Kahlon ("Mini"), Ph.D., an associate professor at the Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin's Department of Population Health and the founding vice dean of the health ecosystem. Her translational lab, Factor Health, identifies opportunities to rapidly improve health through programs embedded in people's lives, outside the clinic, testing them through community-based trials. We asked Mini for her thoughts on the current state of the social safety net: ?? "As the American Compassion podcast series has shown us, we have history to benefit from in thinking about how we, as Americans, help those who are being left behind," she said.?"But, I believe we need to redefine and revitalize our definition of a thriving American society to one where investing in the safety net is seen as essential to our growth and our ideals, not a matter of choice at the ballot box or optional charity." ??
