Our equity research team used NIQ's U.S. e-Receipt data to track DeepSeek and OpenAI sign-ups following the #V3 launch on Dec. 26th. Here are some of the key highlights: ?December 26 - January 20 (V3 to #R1 Launch): DeepSeek accounted for 18% of new user registrations between the two companies. ?? NIQ UK Total Till sales grew +5.3% in the 4 weeks ending 25th January 2025, up from +3.6% recorded in December with good unit growth of +0.9% at the Grocery Multiples. Visits to stores were also up 5% on last year. However, the lift to sales was helped by the timing of the New Year and in the 3 weeks that followed, FMCG growth normalised at +3% ?and unit growth was flat. This is not a surprise as January is when shoppers typically look to save money after the excesses of December. However, this year it looks to have been amplified as that the cost of living is still firmly shoppers no 1 concern at the start of 2025 (NIQ Homescan Survey). This is also reflected in weaker shopper sentiment identified by fall in GFK consumer confidence index in January. So NIQ see subdued growth continuing and it will probably be (the later) Easter, with improving weather or a change in the economic outlook before we see a big change in trend. Unit growth should however remain positive if helped by a tail wind from promotional activity. The other call out is that?shoppers have not cut back on eating more healthier. Meat/ Fish /Poultry was the fastest growing super category (sales +9%). And with shoppers looking?to save money, a half of all households say they now cook from scratch every day or most days, with around 16% doing so more due to the rising cost of living (NIQ Homescan Survey). Behaviour that is ?a driver of the +2% unit growth and +6.8% value growth across all of Fresh and Chilled Foods in the last 4 weeks. Categories that make up over 40% of total store sales. And in case you wondering, sales of No/low alcohol were up +7.4% in the first 3 weeks of the month with full fat alcohol down -3.8% (NIQ Scantrack). #NIQ #NIQHomescan #Foodretail #NIQTotalTillUK
