Financial Health Pathways @CGI2024
What an incredible honor it was to attend the Clinton Global Initiative 2024 representing #PLS. What is working? was the theme and while it might appear that a lot is going wrong in the world President Clinton, Secretary Hillary Clinton and Dr. Chelsea Clinton gave us a lot of reasons to be optimistic and even a surprise visit from President?Biden #POTUS for a special recognition. With an incredible line- up of speakers we learned how #changemakers are opening economic access, improving healthcare, increasing philanthropic?commitments and more.? A few highlights: ? President Clinton: 'We have to keep proving every day that our common humanity?is more important than our differences. You dont just throw up your hands, you roll?up your sleeves. You don't dwell on the past,?you set your sights on the future. The way you live your life is an ongoing statement about why no matter what the problem all is not lost' #JoseAndres Chef and Humanitarian? 'Philanthropy seems often about the redemption of the giver when philanthropy must become the liberation of the?receiver. Who would've thought the humble croquette my mom made with love for me and my brothers, that the same mentality of doing anything we can with nothing using love and creativity?then could help?me join an organization as a young cook where I learned the power of food to build longer tables'? #JaneGoodall: Anthropologist 'My greatest reason for hope: Young people' Francis Kéré International acclaimed African architect? 'I didn't want to accumulate more knowledge because I was afraid I would be isolated. We should be so grateful we are here and live the lives we live. We should?also be humble. We have this chance at life and we have an obligation to help others do better'.? #PrinceHarry: On social media's impact on children:?'We were promised a human experience and we are a human experiment' Suyen Barahona Cuan, a Nicaraguan political activist? 'I was stripped of?my nationality, held prisoner?and tortured for 606 days before I?was exiled in?2023'.?She continues committed?to set Nicaragua free and democratic. Lastly, Dr. Muhammad Yunus,?Chief Adviser of Bangladesh embraced the young people of Bangladesh as the leaders of change. "They look like any other young person but when you see them in action when you hear them speak you will be shaken. They shook the whole country by their speeches, by their dedication and commitment they said "you can kill us anytime you want but we are not giving up". I am grateful to have shared this moment with dear friends and made some new ones in the process as well, thinking a lot is working! but the highlight of the night was definitely ending in a picture with President Clinton who decided to challenge protocol and pose for a picture with some of us!?A special thank you to Mike Hemphill & Kevin Thurm at the Clinton Foundation for their kind invitation. I am leaving NYC inspired by all these #changemakers. Our world is in good hands and #CGI2024 proved it.?

Welcome Dr. Mary Van Haneghan. We are thrilled to have you as part of the Financial Health Pathways board of directors.
We are thrilled to welcome Dr Mary VanHaneghan as our newest Financial Health Pathways board member. Dr. Mary Van Haneghan has dedicated her life’s work to closing the equity gap for chronically underrepresented disability groups by creating transformative opportunities for access and inclusion. She is currently the Executive Director of Easterseals Lonestar, part of the Fedcap Group, where she leads efforts to support Texans with disabilities and veterans. Before this role, she served as the Executive Director of the Williams Syndrome Association (WSA), the most comprehensive resource in the U.S. for individuals and families living with Williams syndrome, as well as for doctors, researchers, and educators. Prior to that, she was the CEO of chapters of The Arc, the nation’s largest organization advocating for the rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Her academic research focuses on individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), exploring topics from historical institutional models to the advantages of post-secondary education. Her work across these platforms reflects a deep commitment to advancing the field of developmental disabilities and improving care and support for individuals across the lifespan. Welcome Mary! We look forward to working with you! #financialhealth #Leadership

An experience of a lifetime. That is how I would describe the Presidential Leadership Scholar program. As an immigrant who spent most of her first years in the US in survival mode, trying to make sense of the new 'home' I learned valuable things through the course of the modules but certainly I learned a lot about myself and my values. It gave me the opportunity to renew my commitment to destigmatize the way we often look at immigrants, as if we are only capable of taking. Immigrants shape new perspectives and influence policy so we can build a more just society but they also remind us of how we started as a country. It gave me incredible insights directly from former Presidents about their approach to leadership and how they navigated challenges and conflict. This program also gave me an incredible network of friends who are super heroes. They are making this world a better place through various initiatives and yet they are always ready to help. It's an incredible gift that made me a better leader and I treasure that experience everyday. If you are interested in learning more please reach out. Applications are still open until July 14th https://lnkd.in/g47V3tEw
