Here are some of my early talent predictions for 2025 (and how employers can prepare). 1. The rise of peer-to-peer closed communities for young people. Closed communities and networks aren’t a new thing by any means, but I believe this will change the way that employers think of outreach and early talent attraction. Young people are creating closed communities of their own to share advice, knowledge and their own events based on subjects that matter to them and these groups are growing fast! Finance For Non-Finance and The Black Apprentice Network (BAN) are some great examples of this. I will even go as far to say that, this approach may surpass attending schools and colleges for early talent attraction at some point. ?? Employers, connecting with these communities and networks will be important moving forward to help diversify where you’re attracting talent. In your early career application forms, have a space for these communities under your “where did you hear about this opportunity” section, so that you can properly identify new partnership opportunities for networks that are popular among your applicants. 2. The rise of 16-18 y/o on LinkedIn. More and more young people are coming onto the platform to start building their personal brand and network online which is fantastic! At The Land Collective, we always recommend this to our members and they are also learning about the platform at insight days, work experience and sometimes from their schools and other organisations that they are part of. I’m seeing great content from “day in the life” videos about their work experience placements to commercial awareness related content, where they are breaking down recent news and their understanding of it. ?? Employers, as we start encouraging more young people to use the platform and how to make accounts, it's important that you consider how to promote online safety as well. The next time you have an insight day or work experience week and the topic of Linkedin comes up, provide some guidance on safeguarding. Here are some suggestions: Location kept vague (city or country only), avoid listing current educational establishments and no content/images in uniform. 3. Steady trend with interest in degree apprenticeships, other levels to grow in interest. Degree apprenticeships in major cities across the UK have been growing in popularity. I believe this is due to social media content (of apprentices sharing their day-to-day life) and the increased effort and budget that firms are putting into outreach. Despite this, other levels are still struggling to get filled, namely between GCSE (Level 3) and A-Level/BTEC (Level 5). In my opinion, these options are the true university “alternative” considering that the student doesn't attend at all. ?? By collaborating with communities like the ones listed above and schools, you can begin to share these other apprenticeship options with more students who truly don’t want to attend university.
