If you think inflation hit hard on grocery bills, you are probably not a DTC brand founder. ?? Cause to them, rising costs mean a complete rewrite of the whole playbook. A restart. And we're mostly talking about the rising ad costs - which have doubled customer acquisition costs since 2019, with some brands now spending 50% of their marketing budgets on paid ads. This is a wake-up call to anyone still putting most of their focus on traditional metrics like ROAS and CAC. They are not telling the full story. Instead, you should be paying attention to these trends: 1) Surface-level metrics → True profitability metrics 2) ROAS obsession → POAS (Profit on Ad Spend) focus 3) Basic CAC → New Customer Acquisition Cost (nCAC) Because you can have sky-high ROAS and still lose money - that is if you're not accounting for landed costs, operational expenses, and SKU-level lifetime value.
