We need to solve a problem. I attended a ScreenSkills run event last year (thanks to an invite from Emily Gunn) and it brought huge clarity. It highlighted the disproportionate nature of our industry. Around 15% of people in the UK are neurodiverse, however It’s estimated that as many as 50% of those working in the creative industries are neurodiverse. Yet despite this, certainly in my experience, film & TV production and in particular the pressures and norms of physical production, make it one of the least supportive and accommodating environments in this respect. All of a sudden many difficult past events and situations with colleagues I had experienced on set or deep in production snapped into focus, and I realised I was only just seeing the tip of the iceberg. Why does production have to be this way? It doesn’t. It’s time to change. The brand new season of Awesome Animals & Mini-Me is now available on Sky Kids! It features a fitness and movement section led by presenter Radzi Chinyanganya from all around the world..in the arctic, the jungle, beside a mountain lake, in the Savannah and on a beautiful tropical island! The five different photo-real environments were designed and produced by our WorldBuilders team and rendered using Unreal Engine. Shown on a giant LED screen behind Radzi and our awesome cast of kids, these virtual settings gave the perfect back drop to their fitness moves. This was the first time this technology has been used in this way for a Children’s production, working in collaboration with THREE ARROWS MEDIA LTD and enabling us to be inclusive in the casting of children with a range of accessibility needs.
