Exciting news - I’m thrilled to welcome Justin Brownstone to Fileread. He joins our team as Strategic Partnerships Lead, in a newly created role that combines product and sales. Justin will drive our business growth and product strategy for law firms and corporate clients in the discovery and litigation space. Justin is a seasoned innovator at the intersection of law and technology. A former litigator at Quinn Emanuel and Miller Barondess LLP, he most recently served as Principal Product Manager at Lex Machina, following his role overseeing Product and Sales at Gavelytics. This unique blend of legal practice and product leadership makes him ideally suited to drive Fileread's next chapter of growth. In his own words, "When I saw their demo, I was stunned by how they've harnessed cutting-edge technology to transform litigation workflows. Fileread stands apart as the rare exception in the sea of LLMs - delivering practical, powerful results that actually work. It’s exactly the type of tool I wish I’d had when I practiced." Welcome, Justin!

What will be the most in-demand skill as a lawyer in 2025? (It won’t be memorizing case law or drafting contracts.) AI systems are becoming increasingly prevalent in litigation — and? lawyers need to know how to use it to their advantage.? Learning to create precise, well-structured AI prompts is an essential skill to prevent litigators from falling behind. (For example, prompting an AI tool to extract valuable information during document review.) Looking ahead, prompts will likely be built into legal products — learning how to test new AI capabilities will be crucial for attorneys seeking a competitive edge. Why does this matter? Finely tuned AI prompts mean better outcomes when looking for contradictions, timelines, and facts during document review. This will help litigation teams use AI to find facts they might have otherwise missed. Here are my tips for mastering AI prompting: 1?? Start with basic prompts, like asking for summaries or rephrasing a legal clause in layman’s terms. 2?? Tweak your prompt if you’re unsatisfied with the output — you can add more details, like asking for fact citations. 3?? Specify output needs by asking for bullet points, a narrative, a technical summary, or provide previous examples you’d like it to emulate. 4?? Test variations and experiment with phrasing. For example, try asking the tool to "analyze this timeline" versus "draft a timeline based on the case's key points." While similar in theory, these two prompts will likely result in far different outputs. This will help you reduce your manual workload so you can focus on what matters: Storytelling, strategy, and client satisfaction. The better your prompt, the better the output.
