Battling carcinoid cancer takes incredible resilience ??. This rare, slow-growing cancer often develops in the gastrointestinal tract or lungs, with symptoms that can go unnoticed for years. The Challenges: From managing painful symptoms like abdominal pain, flushing, and wheezing to enduring complex treatments like surgery and targeted therapies, every step requires courage and strength. The Strength: Living with carcinoid cancer often means adapting to life with Carcinoid Syndrome, regular testing, and a focus on managing health daily. It’s a battle of body, mind, and spirit—and survivors are some of the most resilient warriors we know. Meet our new volunteer in the office Lauren! We're so happy to have her! ?? "Hi Friends! I’m Lauren, I’m 37 years-old with a husband and a beautiful 19-month-old boy. Also at the age of 19-months is one heck of a Brain-Cancer diagnosis. Just a few days after our son was born (via Surrogate, but that’s another story) I received the painful news, that Brain Cancer was mine. I’m very much still in cancer treatment, but I’m staying as active as possible. Part of which, is my new relationship with the Fighting Pretty group. Here, I work as a volunteer each week, and look forward to being involved in many upcoming events. I look forward to meeting all of you! This month, we’re sharing stories of incredible caregivers who pour strength, love, and support into the lives of those they care for. Today, we honor Jess’s mom, who was not only a warrior in her own fight but also an unwavering caregiver. “My mom was my caretaker post-transplant and lived with us for two months while I recovered. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002 and then again in 2017 when it metastasized, and she lost her battle. She really was the strongest person I’ve ever known. Born and raised in Hawaii, she always had a deep connection to the ocean. Per her wishes, we visited a year after she passed and spread her ashes in the Pacific.” -Jess Meyer Her strength and legacy live on, reminding us of the beauty, resilience, and sacrifices caregivers give so freely. ?? Lung Cancer Sucks ?? Did you know that lung cancer may be the leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S., but the number of new cases continues to decrease every year? This progress is hopeful, but there's still work to do. About 1 in 5 women diagnosed with lung cancer today are never-smokers, showing how important it is to raise awareness, regardless of lifestyle. Cancer sucks, and it’s okay not to be okay all the time. It’s a hard journey, but together, we can support each other, one step at a time. This month, let’s honor, support, and bring awareness to those fighting lung cancer.
