The city, state, and Port Authority announced an agreement where the city will assume operational control of the Brooklyn Marine Terminal from the Port Authority, which includes 100+ acres of waterfront. As part of this new investment, the city has launched a planning process, led by a Task Force chaired by Congressman Daniel Goldman, with vice chairs State Senator Andrew S. Gounardes and City Councilmember Alexa Aviles. We’re proud to announce that FAC’s Executive Director, Michelle de la Uz, has been appointed to the Task Force, which will host a series of meetings and advisory groups on issues such as resilience, transportation, and workforce development Photo credit: New York City Economic Development Corporation

Amazing tour of Gowanus with Michelle de la Uz as part of Open House New York! Through her work with Fifth Avenue Committee, Michelle has been a leader, working in coalition with neighborhood partners to shape the development plans and environmental clean-up and ensure it benefits low- and moderate-income New Yorkers. The results? 3,000 of the 8,500 new units of housing will be permanently affordable; acres of new open space; a commmitment of $200 million from the city to renovate public housing developments. And coming soon: FAC’s Gowanus Green development with 100% affordable apartments. Thanks for an amazing tour, and the opportunity to walk the evolving neighborhood with fellow FAC board member Melanie Ash.

Congratulations to my colleague Aura Mejia who was honored yesterday at TakeRoot Justice for her decades of leading tenant organizing at Neighbors Helping Neighbors. I'm very proud to be working alongside someone who's been such a force for good in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.

Citi Foundation’s Community Progress Makers (CPM) provides unrestricted, trust-based funding – known as Enterprise Capital – to community organizations. In this case study, we feature Fifth Avenue Committee (FAC), an organization which provides comprehensive community development including affordable housing, workforce development, and community organizing, and is committed to advancing economic, social, and racial justice in New York City. Having just completed a strategic plan, FAC used their CPM grant to invest in core infrastructure, including data collection, program leadership, and organizational development to build the systems to coordinate their work more effectively and demonstrate its impact to key stakeholders. “The funding and technical assistance contributed to an understanding of the organization’s level of sophistication and readiness to dream bigger.” - Michelle de la Uz #FifthAvenueCommittee #CitiFoundation #20Degrees #CapitalizeGood #EnterpriseCapital Learn more on page 24 in the case study: extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://lnkd.in/eKxdQ98B] .
