Eagles and leaders: What do they have in common? – Extreme altitudes ?? Eagles - can fly at an altitude of 10,000 feet. That's right. 10,000 FEET! For reference, it's recommended that Cessna’s cruise at an altitude of 9,500 for long flights. Eagles do this alone without sparrows, mockingbirds, or any other bird. Leaders - stay away from narrow-mindedness and short-sightedness. They surround themselves with people who fly high. People who have been to the highest peaks and are still hungry to keep climbing. Focusing only on what's below the canopy of the trees will keep you in the company of those who never want to reach above the clouds. – Laser focus ?? Eagles - can focus on prey from over 3 miles away. Regardless of the terrain or obstacles, their focus is precise and relentless, and they have the ability to hold that focus until they catch their target. Leaders - while soaring, have a vision, stick to it, and be relentless. Regardless of the obstacles or the "naysayers." Sure, there are setbacks and challenges, but focusing beyond the problem and on the target will help keep you on the right track to hitting that goal. – Storms ?? Eagles - embrace the storm. When storms gather, they get excited and use the storms to their advantage. While other birds seek protection in the branches, Eagles use the wind to their advantage to cover more ground while conserving energy and gaining a better perspective of their surroundings. Leaders - Some people run away from difficult situations. Many people do what it takes to avoid the challenge or "just" get by. After all, survival is one of the foundation blocks of Maslow's Hierarchy Of Needs. Powerful leaders EMBRACE the discomfort. They never let a crisis go to waste. They are constantly looking for winds that'll not just get them above the storm, but will carry them much further than they ever could have gone without the storm. There is no growth in comfort.
