On November 21st, La Voce di New York covered the event "The Mediterranean Diet: A Journey Through Heritage and Innovation," an initiative organized by the Federation of Italian American Organizations of Brooklyn (FIAO) in collaboration with Journey in Italy. This event, part of La Settimana della Cucina Italiana nel Mondo, aimed to showcase the significant benefits of the Mediterranean diet across health, culture, and sustainability, while addressing its impact on the circular economy and the UN’s 2030 Agenda. FIAO President Jack Spatola and Antonino Laspina, Chair of the "Journey in Italy" Scientific Committee, led discussions with industry experts to explore the broader implications of the Mediterranean diet. The event featured live tastings and demonstrated the versatility of Mediterranean products, emphasizing not only their culinary value but also their positive influence on longevity and community well-being. Special thanks to the incredible speakers and contributors for sharing their expertise and passion: - Chef Heinz Beck, three-Michelin-starred, for his culinary mastery. - Professor Antonio Capurso, for his invaluable insights into Mediterranean food science. - Frantoio Giovanni Arena, for showcasing exceptional Sicilian Extra Virgin Olive Oil, a cornerstone of the Mediterranean diet, paired with artisanal bread. - Antonella Bondi, Gourmet Flavors Bondi 1926, for bringing the art of food fragrances to life, enriching the culinary experience. - Baker Ivo Corsini, for his innovative dough-making techniques, setting new standards for healthier and more sustainable bread. - Andrea Bresciani, Research Fellow at the Food, Nutrition, and Environment Sciences Department, Università degli Studi Milano, for his valuable perspectives on food sustainability. 关于我们
The Federation of Italian-American Organizations of Brooklyn, Ltd. (FIAO), is a not for profit charitable community service organization, established in 1975. As evidenced in its by-laws, FIAO was created from the efforts of dozens of organizations to unite, to galvanize resources, and provide services to the community. FIAO was created in 1975 with a group of community leaders volunteering to work with youth in a recreational environment as an alternative for keeping youth "off the streets". In 1977, two years later, FIAO received its first after-school program funding from the NYC Department of Youth Services to provide academic and recreational services to youth ages 6 - 18.

FIAO is proud to support?TROFEO CONI ESTATE 2024,??the largest U-14 sports event in Italy, now in its ninth edition and inspired by the Summer Olympic Games. The FIAO made this participation possible by coordinating the youth, coach, and parent selections in collaboration with Mico Delianova, Delegato CONI per gli USA. Yesterday, the team had the honor of meeting with the Italian Consul General, Fabrizio Di Michele, at the Consulate General of Italy in New York, where he extended his best wishes for their upcoming competition. Our basketball team is ready to represent the United States in this prestigious event, which brings together regional champions from across Italy.?The athletes will be part of a remarkable combination of sport, culture, and "roots," providing them with a unique opportunity to forge friendships with peers from around the world, practice foreign languages, and reconnect with relatives in the Sicilian towns where their families originated. The competition will take place in Catania and Palermo, starting with an Opening Ceremony on October 4th, featuring Italy’s President Sergio Mattarella and other distinguished guests.
