Last week the ROCK Center spent time with our friends from The Quality Life Center. We shared the book “I walk with Vanessa” and had fun talking about how we can walk with Kindness each day, including with our pets! #FGCU #TheQ #IWalkWithVanessa

关于我们
ROCK promotes compassion, kindness, and empathy through education, action, and research. Launched in 2020, our instructors teach FGCU students about compassion, using the best insights from psychologists, philosophers, neuroscientists, and scholars from many disciplines. Students then apply what they have learned by going into local classrooms to share what they know through interactive activities: painting rocks, planting gardens, journaling, role playing, engaging in readers' theater, leading guided discussions, and spreading goodwill. Our program fosters positive academic and behavioral outcomes through strategies of empathy and engagement. We are currently partnering with four schools to grow compassion at the roots.

This past Saturday #FGCU hosted Make a Difference Day where hundreds of students participated in service-learning projects with local non-profits. The ROCK Center received help from our amazing students to help us prepare for our upcoming World Kindness Day Event (November 13th). Students also helped with projects for the Pace Center for Girls and Tice Elementary School. As we told our students on Saturday, the ROCK Center is grateful for all their support as well as our FGCU Service-Learning & Civic Engagement partners! Wings Up!

Earlier this month, the ROCK Center welcomed back our Tice students and families who attended our ROCK Reads after school literacy program in partnership with Lee County Career and Adult Education?@LisaGumm?@WendyChapman, the FutureMakers and Collaboratory. Students listened to Maria Had a Little Llama read by Dr. Meg Norcia and Barbara Peterson, our ESL friend. Families made their own llama decorations and even had llaman-ade to drink for snack time! Our FGCU students, led by Dr. Michelle Byrne from the College of Education, also had fun reading literacy projects for our families. At the end, through our partnership with BelieveNBooks, the students and their families left with a backpack FULL of books. What an amazing evening!! #CollaboratorySwfl?#Collaboratory?#FutureMakers?#BelieveNBooks?#LeeCountyCareerAndAdultEducation

We put the "active" in "active learning" today with our wonderful The Immokalee Foundation (TIF) campers yesterday! Together we demystified communication, learned empathy skills, practiced teamwork, and applied our knowledge to social media. Thank you to our wonderful Immokalee students, their advocates, Florida Gulf Coast University, and our Roots of Compassion and Kindness (ROCK) at FGCU faculty (Andrea Fortin and Megan A. Norcia) and student buddies (Alyssa and Katie, you rock!)! #activelearning #communicationskills
