We are excited to share that starting in 2025, Mae will support pregnant and birthing people covered under Marketplace / Exchange / IFP plans with in-person and virtual doula services, digital risk-based monitoring, and care coordination. Mae has been at the forefront of implementation as doula coverage in Medicaid has expanded, in some states being the first entity to register doulas for Medicaid participation and billing.?We have built a robust Medicaid presence, partnering with hundreds of community-based doulas and facilitating nearly 4,000 sessions with Mae’s members.?We have seen firsthand the difference this has made in pregnancy experiences, outcomes, and resultant cost savings for our health plan partners- and we look forward to replicating this impact with Marketplace plans in the coming months. #medicaid #aca #exchanges

Last week I had the pleasure of attending the Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting as a part of the 2024 Greenhouse cohort: a community of growth stage start-ups advancing solutions that are changing our status quo.?The theme of the meeting was “What’s Working”, and the goal to share and advance Commitments to Action built around positive proof points addressing social impact imperatives worldwide. I spoke on a panel on the importance of data collection and considerations of lived experience for those who have historically been marginalized and overlooked in healthcare access and solution innovation - a critical aspect of our work at Mae in enabling our team to build with a lens towards the needs and experiences of birthing individuals of color. I left the meeting deeply inspired by the change led by my fellow attendees, and motivated to keep taking steps, large and small, towards the goal. #CGI2024

The Clinton Global Initiative(CGI) Greenhouse program supports entrepreneurs from growth-stage social impact companies. We are proud to share that Mae has been selected to be a part of the 2024 global initiative! CGI supports solutions that introduce innovative technologies and business models that aim to solve critical global challenges. Inclusion in this program allows Mae to continue to work to improve disparate maternal health outcomes in the Medicaid space. Mae is working with Meridian in Michigan! We are thrilled to announce that Mae now provides Meridian, in Michigan, members with continuous digital pregnancy engagement, educational resources, content, community, and local doulas for fully covered in-person prenatal, birth, and postpartum support. We are incredibly grateful to partner with Meridian, a Centene Corporation company. As we embark on this work, we are honored to support their commitment to reducing racial disparities and increasing access to doula services and postpartum care for all eligible pregnant and postpartum members covered by Meridian. We seek to reduce unnecessary complications, improve maternal health experiences and outcomes, and reduce clinical care costs. We are so proud to share that Mae is featured in the following Reuters piece highlighting the evolving landscape of Medicaid-reimbursed doula support to address the Black maternal mortality crisis. Please take a few minutes to read and share this important piece that features our CEO, Maya Hardigan, and one of Mae’s incredible doulas, Kortny Feutardo who supports members in Maryland. Kortny is a dedicated doula who is incredibly passionate about this work and through? Medicaid reimbursement, able to support mothers of diverse socioeconomic backgrounds while maintaining her well-being. As she shared, there is still so much work that needs to be done about increasing reimbursement rates to be comparable to market rates, but doulas like Kortny are driving this important work forward and Mae is doing what we can to support the sustainability of this model. https://lnkd.in/d97WdjCX

We are grateful for the efforts made in Maryland to create more access to Medicaid reimbursement for doulas! On June 24th, the Maryland Department of Health approved 13 additional doula training entities to be eligible for Medicaid reimbursement. The addition of new training entities?more than doubles the size of the original list and opens doors for many doulas to serve mothers who have Medicaid and be reimbursed for their doula support in the state. We are proudly working with an incredible and growing Maryland-based doula community and are excited to see this important work expand in an impactful way.
