Fervo had the honor of attending this year’s Geothermal Rising Conference in Waikoloa, Hawai’i last month. As the geothermal energy industry’s flagship annual conference, GRC provides an opportunity for us to share ideas, address challenges, and learn about the latest technological breakthroughs. Big news out of the Bureau of Land Management this past week - we are so excited to have received approval for the development of the Cape Station project in Beaver County, #Utah. Fervo applauds the hard work of the BLM Cedar City field office and their robust review process for helping achieve this important step forward in the growth of clean, reliable #geothermal energy. While the first two phases of Cape Station total 400 MW, we now have a permit in place for a project that will produce up to 2 GW once it’s fully operational – that’s enough to power more than 2 million homes. ?? We know that Southwest #Utah has the potential to become a national clean energy hub, and this community has the power to shape the course of the growing #geothermal energy industry. That’s why we’re proud to announce a first-of-its-kind geothermal apprenticeship program, in partnership with Southern Utah University and Elemental Impact, focused on subsurface operations education and training that will help oil and gas workers to transition to renewable energy. By the end of 2024, the program aims to enroll at least 40 apprentices, creating career pathways for residents of southern Utah to join the growing geothermal energy industry and advance the #cleanenergy transition. Yesterday the U.S. House of Representatives passed -- on a bipartisan basis -- three bills that will support the growth of the geothermal industry, including H.R.?6474, which?extends a?permitting?Categorical Exclusion currently available for oil and gas to geothermal energy. These improvements are critical to the success of #EGS and we thank Representatives Michelle Steel (R-CA), Susie Lee (D-NV),?John Curtis (R-UT), and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) for their support.
