We are on a mission to make compost mainstream. In order to make this happen we want to empower our existing community members to promote composting practices. This will help to grow Fertile Ground’s network of customers and supporters. Good people know good people, so through personal connections and creative outreach, this program will: - Increase Residential Compost Pick-up Service sign-ups to reduce waste sent to landfills. - Raise awareness about the benefits of composting and using compost. - Build a supportive community of Oklahomans working together for the local environment. - Recognize and incentivize Street Team Members for their efforts with rewards. You might be wondering “What sort of rewards?” 2 Referrals = $20 Fertile Ground service credit + Gary (raccoon) Vinyl Sticker 4 Referrals = $40 Fertile Ground service credit + Bumper Sticker 6 Referrals = $60 Fertile Ground service credit + Fertile Ground Hat (new design) 8 Referrals = $80 Fertile Ground service credit + Fertile Ground T-Shirt (new design) 10 Referrals = $100 Fertile Ground service credit + 1 cubic yard of compost 12 Referrals = $120 Fertile Ground service credit + 1 year of free residential Sounds pretty cool, right? My #Oklahoma Diaries - Chapter Fertile Ground ?? Embracing Sustainability in Oklahoma ?? During my time in Oklahoma, I had the privilege of exploring sustainable practices firsthand. One highlight was visiting Fertile Ground Cooperative, a worker-owned compost facility dedicated to reducing waste and promoting eco-friendly solutions. Guided by Ofelia Ochoa, my host for the day, I gained insights into their meticulous composting process and innovative approaches like eco-friendly dishware for events. Additionally, we visited Paseo to collect and recycle materials left after "The Art Festival". This experience underscored the importance of community involvement in sustainable efforts. Ofelia's passion for sustainability and community engagement was truly inspiring. Fertile Ground's commitment to environmental stewardship and community empowerment left a lasting impression on me. I'm grateful for these eye-opening experiences and look forward to integrating these learnings into my work and daily life. #Sustainability #EnvironmentalAwareness #CommunityEngagement #OklahomaAdventures #FertileGround

FOOD ISN'T TRASH!!! We are launching 20 COMMUNITY FOOD SCRAP DROP-OFF sites in Central Oklahoma. This is your chance to vote on where these sites will be located! WHAT is composting? Composting is the controlled decay of organic materials, like food scraps. The goal is to create compost, a dark, crumbly, earthy-smelling soil amendment that adds nutrients to the soil. WHY is composting important? By adding your food scraps to the drop-off bin, you are reducing waste, cutting methane emissions from landfills, improving our soil, lessening soil erosion, and conserving water if you choose to add completed compost to your yard or garden, which we recommend. WHO can use these drop-off sites? These Community Food Scrap Drop-Off Sites will be open to the public for FREE for the next two years. All you have to do is scan the QR code on the sign at your drop-off location, watch a short video about what can and cannot go in the bin, take a short quiz to check your understanding, and then you will receive a combination code to open the bin (you only need to do this once). WHEN will we be able to use the drop-off sites? The goal is to start collection in September, but you have only until July 12 to vote for drop-off site locations. If you have any questions about the pilot program, you can contact [email protected]. Share this post to spread the word about this FREE pilot program! Cast your vote at https://lnkd.in/ggk4MH8s

Tell your landscapers to bring their landscape waste to Fertile Ground!
Happy to clear out this pile of branches for a client in northeast Oklahoma City and compost with Fertile Ground Cooperative near SE 23rd and Shields Blvd. Fertile Ground turns landscaping waste like grass clippings, leaves, & limbs into useful products like compost & mulch. It's cheaper and better for the environment than hauling this stuff to a landfill! #okc #edmondok #locallandscaping
