    We asked Claude AI to describe what the world might look like without engineers. Not surprisingly, the outlook would be very bleak. "Engineers are far more than technical workers; they are the architects of industrial civilization. Their absence would not just slow progress—it would fundamentally unravel the complex, interconnected systems that support modern life." (Claude AI, keeping it light when asked to describe a world without engineers.) The absence of engineers in critical industrial sectors would cause immediate infrastructure collapse. Without process, quality, & technical engineers in steel production, chemical manufacturing, and oil and gas industries, the world would rapidly descend into a state of technological and infrastructural breakdown. These engineers are the critical backbone of modern industrial civilization, ensuring safety, efficiency, and innovation across multiple fundamental sectors. ?? Steel Production Catastrophe In a world without engineering oversight: ?? Steel manufacturing would become extremely dangerous and unpredictable ??     Why aren't plants ?? making the most out of their production or AI tools? We found that engineers are almost entirely in 'reactive' mode. Their time is spent putting out unexpected fires - so they lack bandwidth to focus on process optimization and efficiency activities. Sadly, sustainability initiatives are an even lower priority than this. A survey that we ran in 2024 indicated that sustainability initiatives were of the lowest priority to frontline workers like engineers and metallurgists.
