#ICYMI: At the center of all leading particle physics labs are the particle accelerators that make the research possible. But just why are particle accelerators necessary? What do they do? ?? In this video, Fermilab’s Dr. Don explains it all: https://lnkd.in/gC2yzJkQ

Fermilab is America's particle physics and accelerator laboratory.
关于我们
Fermilab is America's premier particle physics and accelerator laboratory. Collaborating with scientists from around the world, we perform pioneering research, operate world-leading particle accelerators and experiments, and develop technologies for science in support of U.S. industry. Fermilab works on the world's most advanced particle accelerators and digs down to the smallest building blocks of matter. We also probe the farthest reaches of the universe, seeking out the nature of dark matter and dark energy. Fermilab's 1,750 employees include scientists and engineers from all around the world, and we collaborate with more than 20 countries on physics experiments based in the U.S. and elsewhere. Located in Batavia, Illinois, Fermilab is managed by the Fermi Research Alliance LLC (FRA) for the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science. FRA is a partnership of the University of Chicago and Universities Research Association Inc., a consortium of 86 research universities. Nestled on 6,800 acres in the beautiful Fox Valley, Fermilab’s campus setting offers an informal and stimulating environment with a long history and promising future committed to education, the environment and, of course, world-leading research in particle physics. Join the excitement that comes from discovering the mysteries of the universe! For information on joining the Fermilab team please visit - https://wdrs.fnal.gov/employ/index.html

On November 21, Regina Rameika (DOE Office of Science Associate Director of High Energy Physics) and Christelle Roy (Director of CRNS Nuclei and Particles) signed an agreement between the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and CNRS to support two projects hosted by Fermilab! The DUNE project will greatly expand our knowledge of neutrinos and the PIP-II project will enhance Fermilab's accelerator complex.

Exciting update! ??? After a 25-day transatlantic shipment, the?#PIP2coldbox?was transferred to a river barge at the Port of New Orleans. The Proton Improvement Plan II will power the Fermilab accelerator complex to provide neutrinos for DUNE scientists to study. In parallel, the high-power proton beams delivered by PIP-II will enable muon-based experiments to search for new particles and forces at unprecedented levels of precision and a diverse physics program powering new discoveries for decades to come. Keeping the accelerating structures extremely cold is essential and the coldbox is at the heart of the cryogenic system. The cryogenic plant is being provided as an in-kind contribution from the Department of Atomic Energy in India, the single largest contribution for the PIP-II project. ??
