The Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS) is the think tank of the progressive political family at EU level

关于我们

FEPS is the European progressive political foundation. Close to the Party of European Socialists (PES) but nevertheless independent, FEPS embodies a new way of thinking on the social democratic, socialist and labour scene in Europe. FEPS establishes an intellectual crossroad between social democracy and the European project, putting fresh thinking at the core of its action. As a platform for ideas , FEPS works in close collaboration with social democratic organisations, and in particular national foundations and think tanks, to tackle the challenges that Europe faces today.

? There is #NoExcuse! Today, on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls, there can be no more excuses for the continuous perpetration of violence based on systemic patriarchal societal structures. We need a new #GenderEqualityContract to create a Europe that is safe for all women and girls! ?? https://lnkd.in/ex468NdB Gender-based violence is both the cause and result of gender inequality. Despite so many working towards eliminating violence and creating a true path to equality in our society, violence continues to be an epidemic against women and girls: ? In 2023 alone, 51,100 women were murdered by a family member or partner, meaning that every 10 minutes, a woman died (UN). ?One in three women has experienced violence or threats of violence and or sexual violence in their lifetime by any perpetrator (in the first EU-wide survey published by FRA, Eurostats and EIGE). ?There has been an increase in the perpetration of sexual assault, with new data showing that one in six women has experienced sexual violence, including rape, in their lifetime (FRA, Eurostats and EIGE). Physical violence is just one of the many forms in which violence against women and girls is enacted - emotional, mental, and financial violence is just as pertinent in our society. In February 2024, the approval of the Directive on Violence against Women and Girls was the first comprehensive legal instrument at the EU level to tackle violence against women - but threats to equality from the far-right want to reverse the policies and narratives that are crucial in ensuring safety for women and girls in the EU. We must continue to anchor #Equality in the new EU mandate! ?? Read the new open-access book “A new #GenderEqualityContract for Europe”, arguing why Gender Equality should become a unifying force (the glue!) towards more egalitarian, solidaristic and caring societies in which the first chapter discusses the inclusion of Sexual and Reproductive Health in #VAWG.? ?? https://lnkd.in/enEqN2Da FEPS' work on #GenderBasedViolence has delved into institutional violence, femicide, and violence against #LGBTQI+ women. ???? Leading up to the G20 Summit, FEPS President Maria Jo?o Rodrigues actively participated in the T20 and C20 Summits 2024, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil! ??https://lnkd.in/gBnYv-7T On 11-12 November, the T20 Brasil community convened alongside G20 representatives for the T20 Brasil Summit. Over these two days, FEPS President Maria Jo?o Rodrigues joined leaders of national and international think tanks, members of academia, representatives of the public and private sectors, and civil society to deliberate on the principal policy recommendations developed by the T20 throughout the year for G20 leaders. FEPS President Maria Jo?o Rodrigues was invited as a representative of the foundation to be part of the T20 Brasil’s International Advisory Council. The T20 is a G20 engagement group that brings together think tanks and research centres from G20 members. FEPS has been working closely with the T20 Brazil organising Committee, coordinators, and other members of the T20 Brazil’s International Advisory Council to advocate for a New Global Deal by presenting proposals within its new book “A New Global Deal: Reforming world governance“. FEPS also co-ordinated with T20 co-ordinator Institute for Applied Economic Research (Ipea) during the #SummitoftheFuture Action Days discussing the inputs of the T20 Communiqué?to G20 leaders. Together with the Brazilian Presidency of the G20, FEPS, on behalf of the Progressive family, has been facilitating and opening dialogue across all continents on the urgent need to reform global governance and policies to address the current global challenges. Following the T20 Summit, the C20 Summit 2024 marked the conclusion of Brazil’s presidency of the G20 civil society engagement group. During the event, C20 representatives formally presented the “Policy Pack” to the Brazilian government. This strategic document, prepared by thematic working groups over the past year, outlines critical recommendations on issues including climate justice, poverty eradication, gender equality, and global financial reform. As part of the C20 Summit, Maria Jo?o Rodrigues participated in the panel discussion “The global challenges ahead of us,” which also launched the C20 Declaration on Global Peace. ?? The G20 Leaders’ Summit occurred on 18-19 November in Rio de Janeiro. ?? Following the #SummitoftheFuture that took place in New York and ahead of key summits in 2025, including the 2nd World Social Summit, FEPS and UN Brussels held an event analysing the outcomes and implementation of the? #PactForTheFuture:? ????https://lnkd.in/ePv5R4bp In September, FEPS participated in the Summit of the Future in New York, which saw the adoption of an intergovernmental agreement—the Pact for the Future. The upcoming challenge lies in implementing the Pact and realising its full potential. ? The EU remains instrumental in implementing the #PactfortheFuture and fulfilling the 2030 Agenda's vision of revitalising global partnerships for sustainable development. The event provided an outlet to ensure that the EU's preceding commitment in the process of creating the Pact continues and that the text is translated into concrete actions, particularly ahead of crucial summits in 2025, including the fourth Conference on Financing for Development and the World Social Summit. After years of work on reforming world governance and contributing to the preparation of the #PactForTheFuture, a FEPS Delegation —headed by our President Maria Jo?o Rodrigues — brought key inputs to the New York #SummitOfTheFuture by co-organising several side events, which included presenting the book "A New Global Deal." ???? Ahead of the G20, recently held in Brazil,? FEPS President Maria Jo?o Rodrigues presented the book’s key inputs through her active participation in the T20 and C20 Summits (the global gatherings of? think tanks and civil society). ?? The book "A New Global Deal" presents proposals and recommendations for renewing and reforming #Multilateralism to address current global challenges. https://lnkd.in/efbxWtdm

Watch the launch of the "The Implementation of the New Pact" series by FEPS and FES with EPC and Odysseus Network at the Press Club in Brussels. We need to create a resilient asylum system that balances responsibility and solidarity, protects human rights and the rule of law! ?? https://lnkd.in/eampPuXm The #NewPact was intended to end years of disagreements among member states on migration policy. Yet, the October EUCO meeting dramatically revealed that this goal has still not been achieved. What, then, remains of the New Pact before it has even been fully implemented? Together with legal experts, policymakers, and civil society, the launch of the New Pact series delved into the comprehensive changes brought by the New Pact on #Migration and Asylum and explored how to ensure its effective implementation in the coming years. With speakers: ?? Lilian Tsourdi, Associate Professor and Jean Monnet Chair in EU Migration Law and Governance at the Law Faculty of Maastricht University ??Philippe DE BRUYCKER, Professor at the Law Faculty and Centre for European Studies of the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) ??Catherine Woollard, Director, European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE) ??Desislava Sitarska-Tomova, Policy Officer, Asylum, Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs ??László Andor, FEPS Secretary General? ??Philipp M. Goldberg, Deputy Director, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung EU Office Brussels ??Alberto Horst Neidhardt, Senior Policy Analyst and Head of the European Migration and Diversity programme of the European Policy Centre ?? “A seamless border #migration process raises procedural and operational challenges. The implementation phase will thus be key in realising the Pact's potential in a protection-oriented manner.”- Lilian Tsourdi, Associate Professor and Jean Monnet Chair in EU Migration Law and Governance at the Law Faculty of Maastricht University ??? "The New Pact will not destroy asylum in Europe. It is the action of the EU member states that may do so. If the asylum system collapses, this won’t lead to fewer applications. In fact, the next major crisis may be triggered by the current discussions on derogation" - Catherine Woollard, Director at European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE), speaking at our event 'Implementing the New Pact' The New Pact Implementation series by FEPS Europe, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, and the European Policy Centre - is a useful tool for navigating the ongoing debate on migration and understanding the challenges posed by the New Pact's implementation. It offers concrete proposals to ensure the #NewPact’s effective implementation and the protection of vulnerable applicants. Read the series ??? https://lnkd.in/eA6KWEH6

Ahead of the closing of the informal #EUCO summit taking place in Budapest, we want to recall the importance of protecting #MediaFreedom and #RuleOfLaw to preserve democracy.
