Daylight savings has sprung and it is time to "Spring" ahead. Daylight saving time (DST) has a fascinating history that dates back to the early 20th century. The concept was first proposed by George Hudson, a New Zealand entomologist, in 1895, who wanted more daylight hours to collect insects. However, it was not until World War I that DST was first implemented by Germany and its allies to conserve fuel by reducing the need for artificial lighting. The idea quickly spread to other countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom. After the war, many countries abandoned DST, but it was reintroduced during World War II for similar reasons. In the post-war period, the use of DST varied widely across the globe, with some countries adopting it permanently and others using it seasonally.
