I think that 2024 was the hardest year of my life. I was running my law firm with an infant and a young child at home and was the most anxious, stressed version of myself. That stress came on the heels of what had been a few crazy years: ? going fully remote overnight when COVID hit in March 2020 ? buying a house ? getting pregnant and married ? having my daughter in April 2022 ? getting pregnant again ? having 2 associates unexpectedly leave to start their own firm ? welcoming my son in October 2023 ? working my ass off to rebuild my team. I hate that I had to work through my son's first year to rebuild my firm and couldn't enjoy that time with him.?But that's what I had to do. Last July, I invited my entire team to my house for dinner for the first time. My son was sleeping through the night by then, and I had finally come up for air. Welcoming my team into my home was exciting and strangely vulnerable. We had a chef come in to cook and shared a beautiful meal. In the 6 months after that meal, our business doubled thanks to my incredible team. Hosting that dinner last summer meant everything to me. And while I wouldn't necessarily recommend trying to grow a law firm with 2 children under the age of 3 at home, we do the best we can in the moment and try to learn from the mistakes.
