A huge thank you to Emmie Faust from Female Founders Rise and to Anna Anderson from Kindred London for organising the brilliant event '8 Ideas for a Better Tomorrow' yesterday at the beautiful Kindred London space. So many great female founders and ideas. The ones that stood out for me were: ?? Hannah Baynham (haboo money) – Transforming debt repayment into a pathway to financial freedom. I had not realised the size of the debt problem, particularly among GenZ consumers on the back of easily accessible credit. I loved haboo money's empathetic, people-centred approach to a topic that creates a lot of shame for people. ?? I just wish Susan Gregory's Turners Oak service was available in Germany where my family lives. Innovative services for people in their 'Q3' or 'Q4' stages of their lives are not sufficiently developed yet, despite their enormous wealth levels and often lack insight and empathy with their lives. I sincerely hope that this service can be scaled to create the support system ageing homeowners deserve. ?? As someone who also had an 'Oma' and a mum who now is an 'Oma', Ella Cope's Della Yellow story resonated. Making clothing repair as accessible as learning a language is a great goal in an unsustainable, fast-fashion world. Although as a Gen X'er who did learn sewing from her 'Mama now Oma' and in school, I have yet to be convinced to get out my sewing needles. But that's just because I'm not the 'crafty' type. I also loved the ambition of Karina Malhotra's Acumentice l B Corp Certified – optimising healthcare systems without compromising care. An ambitious goal in the context of NHS changes, but such a great and valid vision of patient-centred care. Equally ambitious and admirable is Maggie Bolger attempting to reinvent childcare (these are her words) with an entire community-centred approach. I think she's very much on to something that will require her tenacity and energy to drive change at council level, but we most definitely need a new approach! Also, congrats to Robyn Greaves for getting funding for Prav, democratising AI for charitable causes. Despite being local to Kindred London, I had never been there. It's a beautiful space, and I certainly will be back soon. Thank you very much again for hosting and thanks to Donna Egan for inviting me.

When I asked her what she was going to talk about, she said I’d have to wait and find out with everybody. Can you sew a button? I can — because I grew up in the Soviet Union, where we didn’t have much. I learned how to darn a sock, sew a button, and stitch a patch. Not much else though, because I’m not really into sewing, despite being a stylist. Ella Cope told us about an app she founded: “It’s like Duolingo, but for sewing.” She learned the skill from her Oma, her Dutch grandmother. I downloaded the app immediately — it’s perfect for my 11-year-old. Go to the app store and type in Della Yellow to get yours.
