We are seeing many comments regarding a situation in Florida in which a FEMA employee had instructed survivor assistance team members to avoid certain homes based on political lawn signs. The employee has been fired as these actions do NOT represent FEMA’s core values and principles. Additional FEMA teams have been sent to the affected area to ensure every home was reached for assistance. We are holding trainings this week for field staff to reinforce our mission and commitment to helping all people, regardless of political affiliation. A thorough internal investigation is being conducted and we have also referred this to the Office of Special Counsel. While we believe this was an isolated incident, we are taking steps to prevent this from happening ever again. Read Administrator Criswell’s statement from Saturday, 11/9: https://lnkd.in/epKBNqt2
