One month since President Joseph R. Biden declared a major disaster in the State of #Alaska for flooding on August 5-6, a total of 248 people in The City and Borough of #Juneau have applied with FEMA for assistance as of November 19, 2024. FEMA has approved $2,601,363.88 through the Individuals and Households Program (IHP), consisting of $1,330,957.10 in Housing Assistance (HA) for home repairs, and $1,270,406.78 in Other Needs Assistance (ONA) for repair or replacement of personal property, vehicle repair or replacement, moving expenses and other disaster-related needs. Workers and self-employed individuals within the City and Borough of #Juneau, #Alaska who became unemployed as a direct result of the flooding that occurred on August 5-6, 2024, may qualify for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA). In response to a request for federal assistance by Governor Mike Dunleavy, individuals residing in the City and Borough of Juneau who were affected by the disaster may be eligible for assistance. Individuals in the disaster area may qualify for DUA if they have experienced any of the following: - They have been disqualified or exhausted an entitlement to regular Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits. - Worked, were self-employed, or were scheduled to begin work or self-employment in an area covered by the disaster declaration. - Became unemployed or unable to work as a direct result of the disaster. - Are unable to reach their place of employment or business as a direct result of the disaster. - Cannot work due to an injury caused by the disaster. Applicants may be eligible for $148 to $370 per week for up to 36 weeks beginning the week ending August 11, 2024. Applicants must first apply for regular UI benefits by calling (907) 269-4700, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. Self-employed persons and those not qualifying for regular unemployment insurance benefits who were unable to perform services due to the disaster may also apply for DUA benefits by calling 907-269-4700 or visit the Juneau Job Center located at 10002 Glacier Highway, Suite 100, Juneau, AK 99801. The deadline for DUA applications must be submitted no later than Monday, December 16, 2024. Applicants will need to provide their social security number, contact information for their most recent employer, and dates worked. Unemployed and self-employed applicants should be prepared to provide documentation about their wages or self-employment earnings. Eligible earnings documentation would be the most recent federal tax records for tax year 2023, proof of employment prior to the disaster, or documents showing pending employment impacted by the disaster. The FEMA Disaster Recovery Center located in #Juneau, #Alaska, will be adjusting its hours on November 9 and 10, and close on November 11 to observe Veterans Day. It will reopen on November 12 with a new schedule to continue providing one-on-one assistance for people affected by the August 5-6 Juneau Mendenhall Glacier flooding. Disaster Recovery Center Updated Hours of Operation and Location: Mendenhall Valley Public Library? 3025 Dimond Park Loop Juneau, AK 99801 Updated Hours of Operation: November 9 and?10: 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. November 11: Closed for Veteran’s Day Starting November 12:? Tuesday-Friday: 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. Saturday: 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Sunday and Monday: Closed Recovery specialists from FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration will provide information on available services, explain disaster assistance programs, help people complete or check the status of applications for federal assistance, and get information on additional resources offered by the State of Alaska and other organizations. As of November 8, 2024, 127 people have visited the recovery center. FEMA has approved nearly $1.7 million, for 100 households affected by the Mendenhall Glacier Flooding disaster.?Alaska’s Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management has already paid more than $1 million to applicants affected by the flood.
