While these cats are healing and preparing for their forever homes, they're helping heal their human friends too. Inmates learn routine, compassion, and experience the joy of a cat's trust - often for the first time in years. Prison officials report that even inmates with histories of aggressive behavior have become noticeably gentler due to the program. "I've seen a lot of offenders transformed by the cats," says Administrator James Stone. After 25+ years, he's watched countless unlikely friendships begin behind these walls.
