1. The Nobel Prize in Chemistry this year went to David Baker, Demis Hassabis, and John Jumper of Google DeepMind for their work in computation?protein design and prediction. Similarly the award?for Physics went to John Hopfield?and Geoffrey Hinton for their work with ML and neural networks. This is the first time in history that the Nobel prizes have been awarded?to ML focused researchers in both disciplines.
2. Billions of dollars has been (and will continue to be) invested into computational biological design companies like Xaira, EvolutionaryScale, Profluent, Chai Discovery, Inceptive, and others.
3. Jensen Huang has spoken about how digital biology is the?next frontier for machine learning. He mentions it is engineering not science. And that we can finally represent the language of biology and chemistry as an engineering problem, rather than a biological one.
