Join our Sustainability Manager, Ben Welty, this Thursday, February 27th, at AIA San Francisco ClimateTech '25 hosted by the Center for Architecture + Design, San Francisco! He'll be speaking on the Climate Tech in the Office panel, which will address how firms of all sizes can adopt and advocate for ClimateTech, addressing team motivation, stakeholder engagement, and project integration. Topics include the?importance of low carbon design, the circular economy, human health, equity, and the business case for climate-focused design, with actionable strategies for overcoming barriers and building industry-wide alignment.

Diversity fuels great design. We firmly believe that a diversity of voices in our studio and design processes creates a richness that we’re passionate about protecting and fostering. Our Corporate Social Responsibility committee is eager to issue our 2024 report, outlining our efforts to create an equitable and diverse workplace that acts as a force for good in the world and values, promotes, and supports its people. We’re proud of the work we’ve done thus far, and motivated to recognize, address, and work on our shortcomings. ?

Our design team worked to thoughtfully choreograph folding building forms into the landscape design through a series of iterations, landing on two organic structures connected gracefully by a second-floor bridge. This layout most sensitively interacts with the site, providing a sense of compression upon entry, and release into the landscape beyond.? ? Introduced in 2023, our?Carbon Budget?takes aim at each project’s operational and embodied carbon, setting an aggressive target of 100 metric-tons (tonnes) per home. Our carbon dashboard measures the projected carbon emissions throughout every design phase via energy modeling and embodied carbon analysis, using this to data to further optimize our designs. Since the launch of this initiative, we’ve implemented the dashboard on 11 projects. In our latest blog post, we dive deep into Fog's Edge, outlining how our team ran an in-depth assessment of the project's predicted operational and embodied carbon footprint, which, in turn, informed the implementation of tailored design strategies, resulting in a more sensitive, resilient design.?
