Whether you're planning to head to the beach, attending a friend's BBQ, or enjoying fireworks, it is important to keep safety at the top of your mind. Here are a couple things to keep in mind during the holiday weekend: Fireworks. Fireworks are capable of causing severe injuries if misused. The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a professional fireworks show. But if you can't resist shooting your own, follow the safety guidelines, keep a safe distance, and never let young children handle fireworks. Swimming. Drowning occurs when you least expect it. Insist that everyone wear life jackets if on boats, do not drink while swimming and boating, and always make sure a responsible adult has a watchful eye on children.? Drive Safely. Always wear your seatbelt, avoid distractions, obey the driving laws, and never, under any circumstances, drink and drive.? Stay hydrated and cool. If you are outdoors, make sure you are drinking at least 8 ounces of water every 20-30 min. Also keep pets hydrated. Make sure to wear sun protection and take a break from the sun and heat ever so often.? Unfortunately you can only do so much, but accidents can happen even you are taking precautions. Today we celebrate Juneteenth to commemorate the ending of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, freedom finally came for more than 250,000 enslaved people of Texas.?On that day, the Army arrived to enforce what had already been the law of the land for two and a half years - known as the Emancipation Proclamation.?Today we celebrate the end of America’s original sin of slavery but also the beginning of the work at the heart and soul of our nation.
