Its integral that we in the healthcare ecosystem pay close attention to what is happening with TikTok. Like it or not, TikTok is quickly becoming the number 1 place Gen Z goes for health information, and its not just the youngins. 59M US citizens turn to TikTok for health information BEFORE and INSTEAD OF going to a doctor. For better or for worse TikTok and social media are now just as integral a part of our healthcare systems. That's one of the main reasons I am so passionate and steadfast in building my company, FeelBetr. If we don't create alternative platforms for people to go to then we will remain beholden to trusting the truth of TikTok information. That's why we need the first health focused social network created by chronically ill women, for chronically ill women to close the women's data gap. We know that tech is not neutral - it was created by men, for men - which has serious consequences. We know that despite all the knowledge we think we have only 1% of all medical research (literally in the history of time, globally) is on women who don't have cancer. We need SOLUTIONS for the 67M chronically ill women in the United States. Despite the dangers of social media its important to recognize that it has unbelievable value that can't be found anywhere else. TikTok's popularity has met a gaping need in our healthcare system. It has given POWER BACK TO THE PATIENT. It has allowed for access to medical information and knowledge long denied to anyone who couldn't afford or access to or enter our current system. Social networks allow for health literacy and teach patient advocacy more effectively than anything else that exists.
