Feeding Missouri

All children need nutritious food for their well-being today and brighter futures tomorrow. However, an increasing number, nearly 255,000, of children in Missouri don’t know where they will get their next meal. The inconsistent access to foods needed to fuel their daily activities affects their physical, emotional, and cognitive development. Missouri’s food banks are diligently working to ensure families and kids have access to the foods they need for a healthier future by partnering with organizations in their community. Together, they work to remove barriers and stigma by offering weekend backpacks, support youth programs, summer feeding sites, and convenient school-based distributions, markets, and pantries. Additionally, they offer SNAP application assistance to help families understand and apply for benefits, ensuring they have extra money to get the food their children need. On this #NationalChildHealthDay, we encourage you to support your local food bank's efforts to ensure our most vulnerable neighbors have the food they need to thrive. Volunteer. Donate. Advocate. Because when Missouri's children are fed, our futures are nourished.

Exciting news! The Missouri Department of Agriculture recently announced it has awarded grant support to 17 food and cost-share projects in urban areas across Missouri. ?? These initiatives aim to increase food production and availability, promote economic growth, and enhance established areas, taking significant steps toward combating hunger and improving food systems. We can’t wait to see the impact in their communities. Public-private partnerships like these are exactly what is needed to tackle the root causes of food insecurity. We’re so excited for Monday! Chris Baker from Feeding Missouri and Ashley McCarty from Missouri Farmers Care will join Derek Polka from Feeding America in a panel discussion at the annual American Commodity Distribution Association(ACDA) Conference in St. Louis, MO. They will share success stories and innovative ways to connect emergency feeding organizations and local growers, producers, and farmers to better serve neighbors facing food insecurity. ????????
