Feeding Indiana's Hungry is comprised of 11 member food banks that are each affiliate members of Feeding America (formerly known as America’s Second Harvest) the nation’s largest food bank network. Collectively, these 11 food banks serve all 92 counties in Indiana. We, as are the agencies we serve, are 501(c)(3) not for profit organizations.

    According to the latest USDA research, 1 in 5 children experience food insecurity in the U.S. The problem worsens every year when schools close for summer and millions of kids lose reliable access to breakfast and lunch. But there’s good news! USDA’s new, permanent grocery assistance program called SUN Bucks, also known as Summer EBT, can help close the summer hunger gap. 🎒 SUN Bucks is a proven tool to reduce child hunger and support better nutrition.     Feeding America is beyond proud to join a new coalition raising awareness of the SUN Bucks program, the USDA's new Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer program that provides grocery benefits to eligible families with school-aged children during the summer months when schools are closed.     Food insecurity affects every community in the U.S. Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap study is a powerful tool to understand local impact and take action. We can leverage this data to address factors impacting food insecurity and unite to ensure everyone has access to the food and resources we all need to thrive. Some key findings from our most recent study include: 🔸 Food insecurity impacts communities in every county, parish, and congressional district in the U.S. 🔸 Child food insecurity rates can reach almost 50% in some counties. 🔸 Eight out of 10 high food insecurity counties are in the South, indicating regional disparities. 🔸 Rural counties disproportionately experience high levels of food insecurity compared to urban areas.
