Just last year, the Feeding America network of food banks and their community food distribution partners rescued 2.3 billion pounds of retail products. Our challenge: it’s simply not enough. That’s why Feeding America announced The Food Rescue Challenge, a call to action for new collaboration and innovation across the food industry to help rescue an incremental one billion pounds of food. Our CEO Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, was a guest on The Jennifer Hudson Show this week, speaking about the work we're doing across our network in the wake of Hurricanes Helene and Milton. We want to extend our thanks to Jennifer Hudson and Mars/Ben's Original for their generous donation of $25,000. This donation will help us continue our on-the-ground work to help these communities rebuild and recover in the challenging times ahead.
Where’s Claire? Using My Voice for Another Claire, Her Community and So Many More Hurricane Helene is not done, though the cameras may soon stop reporting on its impact in favor of a “new” story. It has taken so much, including hundreds of lives. But it can’t take all. Amidst the rubble remains heart, grit, resilience and even triumph. The #MannaFoodbank was taken but not #ClaireNeal, its CEO—nor was her remarkable team, her partners or her community across western North Carolina. Though life is certainly “lifing” there, neighbors are “neighboring” too. So many, like Claire, are providing for others even in the face of significant, personal loss. This is not just happening in North Carolina, but also in Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia and Florida. And with Hurricane Milton more has been taken, some of which is irreplaceable…again. And, as is true for every disaster, #feedingamerica is there, in the thick of the storm and its aftermath. Our Network will stay even after all of the cameras leave. I’m sometimes asked what “keeps me up at night?” Some are surprised to learn that I sleep rather well. But those people must not know what it feels like to go to bed knowing that whatever the day, no matter the geography or circumstance, they are part of a team who will show up for others #BeforeDuringAndAfter the storm or wildfire or mudslide or tornado or the more intractable hunger-related disasters that nearly 50 million people (nearly 14 million kids) face in this country that have nothing to do with weather. So…#WheresClaire been using her voice lately? Look at the video to find out! https://lnkd.in/gMQtqK8x

Hurricane Helene has devastated communities across several states, and the Feeding America network is already on the ground, working alongside communities, state officials and national partners, to provide essential food and resources. We are working closely with food banks across six states as they assess and address damage and impact to their own facilities and work to distribute emergency supplies, including water, disaster boxes, snacks and more to hard-hit areas. With our extensive national network, we prioritize getting aid to the most affected areas first, allowing us to respond quickly and support long-term recovery efforts in communities. Visit FeedingAmerica.org/Helene to donate--every contribution matters! ?? Need help? Find a local food bank near you at https://lnkd.in/gvibnHZs #HurricaneHelene #Helene #FeedingAmerica

Feeding America applauds the announcement of $1 billion in additional funding for emergency food assistance by the Biden administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). This investment comes at a crucial time. Food insecurity in the U.S. rose again in 2023 when 47.4 million people—1 in 7 people, including 1 in 5 children—experienced food insecurity. Families and individuals experiencing hunger are working to secure access to fresh, healthy food to thrive, and this funding will provide critical resources for food banks who are ready to assist them. In support of neighbors, food banks have been operating under heightened need, with increased food purchase and transportation costs. Food programs for seniors and Native and tribal communities have been impacted by supply chain issues. Now, as communities begin to recover from Hurricane Helene, food banks are providing short-term and long-term disaster response and support. Feeding America is grateful to the USDA for its continued commitment to hunger relief. ?? Read our full statement: https://bit.ly/3Y48MRW
