?? Shoutout to the amazing Waialua Community Association! ???? While I was away, I had the honor of volunteering with Linda & her incredible team—feeding those in need every Wednesday. It’s a reminder that even in places of luxury, many people still struggle. Much love to my parents, local military, and fellow volunteers who showed up to help! If you have time or a few dollars to spare, consider giving back. ?? #GiveBack #CommunityMatters #WaialuaCommunity #FeedTheHungry #VolunteerSpirit

Fighting Hunger, One Conversation at a Time! ?? Proud, honored, and FIRED UP (like Vincent!) to have attended Philabundance’s Hunger Action Symposium at Rutgers University in Camden! On behalf of Feed Philly Coalition, ELGP & The Bynum Hospitality Group, we wholeheartedly support the crucial conversations happening around food insecurity, policy, and real solutions to ensure that hunger becomes a thing of the past in the Philadelphia region. This powerhouse event brought together champions for food justice, including Sen. Sharif Street, Sen. Vincent Hughes, NJ Assemblyman William Spearman, Ellen Teller (Food Research & Action Center), and Kurtis Miller (Sen. Fetterman’s Office), with incredible insights moderated by Jasmine Sessoms. Key Takeaways? ?? Hunger is NOT a food supply issue—it’s a financial and policy issue. ?? SNAP benefits must be protected and expanded. ?? Year-round school meal programs are critical for childhood nutrition. ?? Cuts to USDA food programs could have devastating effects—state & federal action is needed NOW. As Philabundance CEO Loree D. Jones Brown so powerfully stated—solving hunger isn’t just about food, it’s about housing, healthcare, and economic stability. 2026 is a big year for Philadelphia. We have a chance to show the world what a truly food-secure city looks like. Let's make sure we’re ready. ?? ?? Let’s keep pushing. Let’s keep advocating. Let’s keep showing up. Kudos to Loree, Kim, Dorothy and the entire Philabundance team. #EndHunger #FoodJustice #FeedPhilly #HungerAction #FoodIsARight #NoEmptyPlates #PhillyStrong

Food insecurity, a critical issue affecting millions of people worldwide, is often misunderstood. Separating fact from fiction is essential to understanding the problem and finding effective solutions. Here's a look at some common misconceptions about food insecurity: Myth: Food insecurity only affects developing countries. Fact: While food insecurity is more prevalent in developing countries, it's a significant problem in developed nations as well. In the United States, for example, millions of people struggle to access enough food for a healthy life. Myth: Food insecurity is primarily caused by poverty. Fact: While poverty is a major factor, food insecurity can also be caused by other issues like rising food prices, limited access to transportation, and lack of affordable housing. Myth: Food insecurity only affects low-income families. Fact: Food insecurity can affect people from all socioeconomic backgrounds. Students, seniors, and working families can also struggle to afford food. Myth: Food banks and soup kitchens are enough to address food insecurity. Fact: While food banks and soup kitchens provide essential support, they are not a long-term solution. Addressing the root causes of food insecurity requires a comprehensive approach, including policies that increase access to affordable food and support for food assistance programs. Myth: People experiencing food insecurity are lazy and don't want to work. Fact: This is a harmful stereotype. People experiencing food insecurity often work multiple jobs but still can't afford enough food. They may also face barriers to employment, such as lack of education or childcare. Myth: Food insecurity is not a serious problem. Fact: Food insecurity has significant health and economic consequences. It can lead to malnutrition, chronic diseases, and poor academic performance. It can also strain household budgets and contribute to poverty. Myth: There's nothing I can do to help. Fact: Everyone can play a role in combating food insecurity. You can donate to food banks and soup kitchens, advocate for policies that support food access, and volunteer your time to help those in need. By understanding the facts about food insecurity, we can work together to build a more just and equitable food system.
