Earlier this month, FedTech hit pause on the Zoom calls and headed out to Airlie in Northern VA for a little face-to-face time! We spent a few days exploring the beautiful grounds, sipping wine, making some four-legged friends (alpacas, obviously), and even squeezing in a few bike rides between all the laughs. With our team spread out across the U.S., it was the perfect opportunity to come together, swap ideas, and enjoy each other’s company without a screen in sight—well, except when it came time for a round of FedTech Jeopardy. Thank you to Lindsey Smith and Michelle Chang for all your hard work, and to our wonderful advisors, Jeannie Mun, John Cramp, Mark Bigham, Bianca Thayer, Thom Martin, and Geoffrey M. Odlum for joining us!

Although I have spent a decent chunk of my adult life in the US, it was one of first such experiences- spending an extended time at a HBCU at Hampton University. The “U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to People” conference brought together diverse stakeholders including labs, industry, investors, educators, and students to create a vibrant atmosphere on campus. Along with Poornima Upadhya from Brookhaven National Laboratory and Ish S. from Sandia National Laboratories, the students and I contemplated on the wonderful experience and opportunities through MSI Connect. The program, powered by FedTech is a two stage fellowship for students at MSI (Minority Serving Institutions) to do a paid summer fellowship with one of the leading national labs and commercialize some of the best available green technologies the world has created. The excitement in the room was palpable and we had two amazing student ambassadors from Hampton, who shared their experiences. The campus, which has a rich legacy and history in driving social change through education, was very much alive and the Student Center was buzzing with students’ enthusiasm and curiosity. Thank you to the amazing team at FedTech including Robyn Brazzil Crystal Shamblee and Emmanuel Moges who have shaped a program so impactful- that is literally changing lives, providing unparalleled opportunities to students. And thanks to the team at FedTech for the support in making the trip happen- from logistics to all encompassing help. Thanks also goes to the amazing Poornima Upadhya, whose drive and support has taken the program to new heights. And Hampton is a must go place if you are ever in DC or the area. Beautiful shores and amazing food. The Japanese place in town is definitely worth a dinner stop :)

The US Army did a fantastic job as always in hosting the #AUSA annual meeting and exhibition this year.?The combination of 150+ informative policy and program briefings from top Army and other DoD officials, opportunities to engage Army components and DoD R&D and acquisition entities directly as well as companies and delegations from Allied and partner states, and the ability to walk around the Washington Convention center floor and check out amazing, cutting-edge defense technology and equipment from 700+ exhibitors, is a remarkable testament to the Army’s commitment to modernizing its capabilities (at an impressive pace) and building and deepening relationships with stakeholders. It was a pleasure to see so many friends and colleagues -- FedTech was well represented! – and to get important updates on Army and DoD small business priorities and opportunities, and benefit from targeted matchmaking.
