According to a recent notice from the Acquisition Planning Forecast System, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s CBP is gearing up to award a contract worth over $100M for Technology Service Desk (TSD) operations. Booz Allen Hamilton has proven its ability to drive real innovation in the government space and beyond with Cisco’s acquisition of SnapAttack, a Booz Allen-developed cybersecurity platform. We’re seeing a clear example of how dual-use technology can thrive in both the government and commercial markets. Often, government contractors are seen as service or solution providers rather than innovators, but Booz Allen’s successful spin out of SnapAttack challenges that narrative. By developing and commercializing a #cybersecurity solution, they’ve demonstrated that a firm deeply embedded in national security can also produce technology that is attractive to the commercial tech sector. For companies competing in the GovCon space, this reinforces some takeaways: ?R&D investments can create commercially viable tech. ?Dual-use technology strategies can accelerate mission outcomes while driving broader adoption. ?A well-executed spinout can maximize impact (and profitability) fueling both national security and private-sector innovation. Keep in mind that Booz Allen played the longer game here. They launched SnapAttack internally in 2020, through the?Booz Allen DarkLabs?organization to consolidate threat intelligence, incident detection and response and risk mitigation processes into a single offering. Then, they spun it out in 2021, retained a minority stake, and now see it acquired by a major commercial industry player.
