As a fusion energy future becomes increasingly tangible, the United States should proactively prepare for when it arrives. Critical minerals, robotics, advanced energy systems, quantum computing, biotechnology, shipbuilding, and space are some of the resources and technologies that will define the economic and security climate of the 21st century. But the United States is at risk of losing its edge in these technologies of the future, thanks to the “valley of death" – when the capital required for development is too large for traditional venture capital, yet too risky for traditional project finance.
