FAH represents leading tax-paying hospitals and health care systems.
关于我们
The Federation of American Hospitals (FAH), founded in 1966, is the national representative of more than 1,000 tax-paying community hospitals and health systems throughout the United States. FAH members provide patients and communities with access to high-quality, affordable care in both urban and rural areas across 46 states, plus Washington, D.C and Puerto Rico. Our members include teaching, acute, inpatient rehabilitation, behavioral health, and long-term care hospitals and provide a wide range of inpatient, ambulatory, post-acute, emergency, children’s, and cancer services. These tax-paying hospitals account for nearly 20% of U.S. hospitals and serve their communities proudly while providing high-quality health care to their patients. FAH provides a unique perspective to health care policymakers. We and our members are steadfast advocates of a market-based health care system, which benefits patients by continually providing high-quality, comprehensive care through innovation. Since its inception, FAH has worked diligently to provide the expertise and insight of its members to federal legislators and regulators, as well as to other stakeholders, the general public and the media. The Federation of American Hospitals serves its members as a clearinghouse for information about the nation’s most vital health policy issues. These include Medicare and Medicaid, the uninsured, health care quality, patient safety, health information technology, medical liability insurance reform, rural health care, long-term hospital care, inpatient psychiatric care, hospital emergency preparedness, antitrust, compliance, the health care workforce shortage, privacy and confidentiality, tax issues, and rehabilitation services, among other important issues.

Doctors, nurses, and clinicians are the backbone of rural health care, yet workforce shortages and provider burnout are pushing rural hospitals to their limits. Strengthening the rural health care workforce is essential to meeting the needs of patients in underserved communities.? ? Extending and expanding programs like Conrad 30, supporting legislation for federal protections for health care workers, and reallocating unused visas to increase the number of nurses and doctors will provide critical resources for rural hospitals. "Rural hospitals have the decks stacked against them. The combination of threats, including Medicare underpayment, managed care plans’ persistent delays and denials of patient care, and unique workforce challenges, are pushing rural hospitals to the financial brink..." FAH President and CEO Chip Kahn released a statement for #RuralHospitalWeek and #NationalRuralHealthDay with a poignant message on the critical role of rural hospitals and the challenges they face.
This #RuralHospitalWeek, we recognize the dedication of rural hospitals & their workforce, tirelessly providing care to their communities. Read my statement on Rural Hospital Week: "Rural?hospitals – often the only comprehensive care providers in their communities - serve as lifelines for patients, providing 24/7 care for over 60 million?rural?Americans. During?Rural?Hospital Week,?we celebrate the dedication of?rural?hospitals and their incredible workforce, who tirelessly provide care to their neighbors. Yet,?rural?hospitals have the decks stacked against them.?The combination of threats, including Medicare?underpayment, managed care plans’ persistent delays and denials of patient care, and unique workforce challenges, are pushing?rural?hospitals to the financial brink, making it all the more important to permanently extend the Low-Volume Hospital (LVH)?and?Medicare-dependent Hospital (MDH) Programs, which help keep hospitals’ lights on and are set to expire at the end of this year. FAH will continue fighting for policies that help?rural?hospitals succeed and ensure all patients – no matter where they live – have access to comprehensive care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year." https://lnkd.in/edJUYtYT ?

On #NationalRuralHealthDay, a new analysis by?Dobson DaVanzo & Associates, LLC,?and the?Coalition to Strengthen America's Healthcare?highlights that hospital integration can provide a lifeline to financially vulnerable rural hospitals, ensuring communities maintain access to critical health care services. ? Key findings from the report: ? Financial Stability: Hospital systems help stabilize rural hospitals' finances, with total margins improving post-affiliation or merger. ? Access to Care: 55% of rural hospital closures between 2011-2021 were standalone facilities?that lacked support of a larger system.?1 in 3 hospitals that were at high risk of closure were no longer high-risk following a merger or acquisition. 2 in 3 hospitals that were at high risk of closure were no longer high-risk following affiliation. ? Improved Outcomes: Integration addresses staffing shortages, updates technology, and?standardizes care protocols for better patient health outcomes. Read the study:?https://lnkd.in/ekne-v2h

Many rural Americans don’t have easy access to routine health care, and travel even greater distances and spend more time traveling for specialty care. As a result of rural hospital closures, some rural patients have to travel 20 miles farther for inpatient care and 40 miles farther for less common services.?? We’re kicking off #RuralHospitalWeek by highlighting the invaluable role hospitals play in providing critical health care services in rural communities.?? ? Did you know: One in three adults in rural communities is enrolled in Medicare, and the rural hospitals that care for them often operate on slim financial margins. To keep rural hospitals’ doors open and protect the rural safety net in these areas, we need to permanently extend the Low-Volume Hospital and Medicare-Dependent Hospital programs that support rural communities.? ?
