We proudly announce that Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated ~ Iota Alpha Omega Chapter, will be this year’s Mildred Warren Good Neighbor Award recipient at our Celebration of Hope Brunch! Named after the late Mildred Warren, a Middletown resident who generously left her estate to support community-based organizations, this award is given to individuals, businesses, or organizations that have been steadfast supporters of Fearless!. These honorees go above and beyond to assist in our mission, consistently asking, “What can we do to help?” Their dedication, generosity, and unwavering commitment make a meaningful difference in the lives of survivors and their families, showing what it truly means to be a good neighbor. Founded in 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha is the first Greek-letter organization established by African American college-educated women. Chartered in 1969, ?IAΩ has dedicated over 55 years to uplifting the Mid-Hudson Valley through education, advocacy, and community engagement.?Their commitment is evident in projects such as the Bronze Commemorative Plaque honoring Doris "Dorrie" Miller, the first African American recipient of the Navy Cross, and the Historical Marker recognizing Harriet Josephine Terry, a Hudson Valley native and Alpha Kappa Alpha sophomore founder. Through their partnership with the Mid-Hudson Ivy Foundation, Iota Alpha Omega has provided over $166,000 in scholarships and book awards, assisting more than 163 high school students in achieving their academic dreams. This award honors individuals or groups working within the criminal and civil justice systems who are dedicated to improving the experiences of victims and survivors navigating complex legal processes. These honorees are champions for survivors, working to close systemic gaps and ensure that justice is accessible and survivor-centered. Through their efforts, whether in law enforcement, advocacy, the court system, or legal service, they help create pathways to safety, healing, and empowerment for those affected by violence. A dedicated Family Law attorney for 34 years, Juliana has been a fierce advocate for children’s rights and survivors navigating the legal system. She co-founded America Rows and Swims Newburgh, providing underserved youth with mentorship and opportunity, and organizes free legal clinics to ensure access to justice. Her unwavering commitment to pro bono work and survivor-centered advocacy makes her a true champion for justice. They are the silent champions of our mission, woven into the very fabric of our organization, bringing joy, support, and friendship to staff, survivors, and the community. Whether through their dedication, mentorship, or compassionate presence, they leave a lasting legacy of kindness and service, proving that even the smallest, most unrecognized actions can create profound change. Christine has been an integral part of Fearless! since 2001, when she joined the Board of Directors and began leading fundraising efforts to strengthen our mission. Over the years, she has volunteered on multiple committees, provided unwavering support at events, and, alongside her husband Brian, has been a steadfast champion for survivors. Christine’s leadership as Vice Chair and later Board Chair helped guide Fearless! through growth, challenges, and milestones. Through their work, advocacy, or personal journey, they remind us that strength, perseverance, and determination can lead to a brighter future. This award recognizes those who uplift and empower others, ensuring that no one facing domestic violence feels alone. Angela Accomando is a professionally trained chef, the CEO of Golden Meals, and a powerful advocate for domestic violence survivors. Her personal journey, beginning with refuge in a Rockland County shelter as a child, and continuing through her own experience in an abusive marriage, has driven her commitment to social justice. She partnered with NYS lawmakers to change a critical law regarding domestic violence reporting. Angela seamlessly merges her passion for nourishing people with a commitment to social justice, partnering with organizations feeding community members who have chronic health conditions or struggle with food insecurity with prepared meals and fighting for the rights of survivors.
