Kaiaulu Initiatives started off as a sole mission to replant the forest above Lahaina after the 2023 wildfire disaster and now the goal has grown into helping Lahaina become self-sustainable as it aims to reforest 500 acres. https://lnkd.in/euzEbUph

With the protection of 212 acres of forestland that will expand South Dakota’s Newton Hills State Park and adjacent public lands, The Conservation Fund’s work to expand protected forests means stronger ecosystems, more carbon storage and better climate resilience. This intact native forestland is home to the only oak species native to the state, the bur oak, that is resilient to extreme hot and cold temperatures due to its thick bark and deep taproots. https://lnkd.in/ea7qbtVK

The 2025 Conservation in the West study via the Colorado College State of the Rockies Report suggests that people recognize the value of public lands more than ever. Strong majorities of Western voters support policies that focus on the protection and conservation of public lands and oppose policies that would open public lands up to drilling, mining, or other development. New Jersey is getting ahead of spring fire season with new guidance for residents, while also emphasizing wildfire prevention with municipalities. The state’s Forest Fire Service’s leadership in implementing prescribed fire and fighting wildfires frequently draws firefighters, students, scientists and researchers from around the country and world to New Jersey to learn about prescribed burning, the fire adaptability and ecology of the Pinelands region and forest management. https://lnkd.in/eWFRkCt6

Forest-Climate Working Group Member Open Space Institute recently worked with The Land Conservancy of New Jersey to successfully conserve forested land along a creek in New Jersey. This small but significant acquisition will help protect drinking water quality and support efforts to connect forested habitats along the slopes of the Kittatinny Ridge in the Delaware River Watershed. https://lnkd.in/eV5WPhGw
