This past weekend, we hosted an experimental workflow hackathon with Luma AI. Each team leveraged Luma AI's Ray2 APIs to develop generative-centered tools. The projects that came out of the 24-hour blitz of creation were one step forward in exploring how directors could more intuitively define parameters, guide creative execution, and shape an overarching vision when working with generative AI. There were lots of interesting new ideas explored, and we took a ton of notes and will report back in the next few weeks! Congrats to our winning teams! Today in Venice Beach, we kicked off our CREATIVE CONTROL Hackathon with Luma AI! Participating teams received access to exclusive Luma Ray2 models, Luma's Photon API, and APIs from ElevenLabs, Mod Tech Labs, and Playbook3D. What sets this hackathon apart is its focus on crafting specific workflows for production. Rather than creating standalone apps OR developing a generative short film, teams are challenged to develop generative-centered tools that enable directors to define parameters, guide creative execution, and shape an overarching vision. We collaborated with renowned VFX supervisor Robert Legato (Avatar, Titanic, Jungle Book, and more), who defined our hackathon tracks based on challenges he has experienced with bringing control to the process of working with generative AI. We can’t wait to see how each team tackles one of these three challenges: ?? Creative Camera Control: Infuse a filmmaker’s perspective into the generative AI process through enabling "directability" to achieve compelling cinematography. ??? Creative Scene Control: Ensure world-building consistency and continuity across different shots and projects. ???? Creative Actor Control: Empower directors to work with generative characters capable of delivering nuanced, emotional performances. Robert also provided participating teams with a short trailer script and creative treatment, centering on a young man who uses state-of-the-art AI to reunite with his deceased family in VR.
