Resilience isn’t merely about reacting to disasters; it’s also about being prepared for them before they happen. CBS News recently published an article discussing a topic that affects many Americans. Many homeowners don’t have sufficient insurance coverage to fully recover after a natural disaster. Insurance is essential for recovery, but resilience extends beyond financial coverage. It involves ensuring that homes and communities can withstand the unexpected. More programs need to exist that enhance the resilience of properties, to mitigate the long-term impact of disasters. We’re dedicated to helping homeowners assess and enhance their property's disaster resilience. Because when dealing with disaster preparedness, every step taken now can make all the difference later. At Faura, we love finding ways to mitigate risk for homeowners. ?? However, there will always be something to learn from organizations that are also creating resilience in communities. Amazon recently highlighted its Disaster Relief Hub, a program designed to mobilize supplies to communities impacted by disasters quickly. By positioning essential relief items like food, water, and shelter materials in strategic locations, Amazon is streamlining responses, reducing the time it takes to get help. ?? This kind of preparedness is critical. In the wake of a disaster, the speed of response can determine whether communities recover quickly or face indefinite damage. Programs that deal with flood mitigation, wildfire prevention, and emergency infrastructure are essential when it comes to building resilience. Investing in disaster preparedness isn’t just about responding faster; it’s about ensuring communities have what they need before disaster strikes. ?? Faura has this same philosophy. We are so excited to be highlighted by Megan Bell on the InsHER podcast! ??? ?? Join these two wonderful innovators as they discuss everything from space to climate to, of course, insurance! ??
?? I have been looking forward to sharing this episode for a while now. I was so impressed by this guest that I definitely lost my cool and geeked out. If you don't know her already, allow me to introduce the awe-inspiring: ? Valkyrie Holmes, Founder and CEO of Faura ? ?? Interested in STEM from a young age, Valkyrie found herself doing electrical engineering in her garage and eventually taking classes at MIT. Shortly after, she applied for an internship at NASA and was accepted into their satellite imaging team. Valkyrie then began her work as a data analyst and engineering intern at SpaceX. ?? Being awarded the 776 Fellowship to work in sustainability is where her insurance journey truly began. Since then, she launched Faura, a software company that adds climate resilience data to the insurance market and helps insurance companies and homeowners reduce their natural disaster risk. ?? My favorite part of Valkyrie's mission is the motivation to help: “The more we bring more people into climate and insurance space the better it will become for everyone and our infrastructure becomes more resilient.” ?? Her commitment to helping others extends past her company. Valkyrie encourages more young people to bet on themselves, and delve into whatever excites them, even if it's not conventional: “You are much more powerful than you think you are at a young age. You can do things now. You don’t have to wait until college to build up your portfolio of things that you actually like to do. You don’t have to wait until college to get that dream internship. If I had waited to do all of these different things I would not be here today.” ?? I could keep writing, but instead, PLEASE download Valkyrie's full episode. Prepare to be absolutely wowed. Have you heard of ‘Troopers Law’? ?? The team at Faura has been keeping up with new legislation, especially ones in line with the California wildfires. ?? But we want to offer a more positive start to the week, starting with this: This new bill just passed its first hurdle at the latest hearing - Troopers Law was originally inspired by a viral video of a dog tied to a pole during Hurricane Milton. If this bill is passed, the new law would impose a 10,000 fine and a five-year prison sentence on those found guilty of abandoning their pet during a natural disaster. ?? ?? This picture below is Trooper celebrating his big win! ?? Click here to learn more about Troopers Law ?? https://lnkd.in/g3S8EgXH bandoning-pets-in-disasters-a-felony/78430280007/

Let's do some quick math... ? If you've been seeing my posts for a while, you may be familiar with this format, but I think it's important to discuss a few scenarios here. According to the article below, 14,417 claims have been partially paid, resulting in a $4.2B bill to the insurance industry. That's an average of $291,322.74 per claim. ?? This is only the ones that have been partially paid out. ?? There are a ton of questions about the California Fair Plan and how legislators are going to deal with the recent disasters, but I think we have to ask the more general question: "Are we financially prepared for another Palisades fire?" ?? There is so much that goes into the survivability of the home and we need to be more intentional about how we're approaching that. These changes need to happen fast - let's be intentional about our risk and how we find those risks. Faura ?? Read more: https://lnkd.in/gjq2AZT2
