From no chemistry to the perfect reaction! ???? After five years and four cities, Jacob Calpey (M2) finally popped the question to his fiancée, Rachel, over winter break. What was supposed to be a simple flight to Amelia Island turned into a romantic surprise, with Rachel being swept off her feet by a proposal on the beautiful beach. Jacob shared, “It was truly a special few days filled with plenty of love.” #MedOwls #ValentinesDay

What better way to celebrate the month of love than with an engagement! ???? Dr. Anna Weinand and Dr. Gabriel Lama, both from the class of 2023, returned to where it all began—South Florida—where their incredible journey started. Dr. Weinand fondly remembers, “During our very first orientation session…Dr. Caceres and Dr. Wood told us to look to our left and to our right because we just might be sitting next to our future spouse. We laughed, but for us--they were right!” Even the separation caused by the pandemic couldn’t stop their connection. Despite being physically apart, Anna and Gabriel stayed close, studying together virtually. By the time they reunited for their 3rd-year rotations, they shared their first date at Hawkers in Delray Beach, marking the start of their love story. Now, Dr. Weinand and Dr. Lama call New York City home, where Anna is completing her General Surgery residency and Gabriel is in Orthopedic Surgery residency. On a recent trip back to South Florida, Gabriel made the moment even more special by proposing at the beach! Comment a “??” if you fell in love in medical school! #MedSchoolSweethearts
