Leadership Now Project CEO Daniella Ballou-Aares and I co-wrote an op-ed for Fast Company on the destabilizing impact businesses will face if a proposal to replace tens of thousands of career public servants with political appointees came to pass. Overnight, our government's fundamental goals would shift. Rather than decisions based on objective evidence and subject matter expertise, our government would serve the interests of an administration over the public good. For American taxpayers, and especially for businesses, this shift would constitute a rug-pull of historic proportions. What we need are bold but constructive reforms to support a more responsive government and preserve the stability of businesses—and the public—that need to thrive. Read more about what's at stake for businesses if career professionals are replaced with political appointees.

As Lina Khan,?Federal Trade Commission?chair, describes during her panel at Fast Company’s 10th annual Innovation Festival: “Imagine a family where a kid has a nut allergy being charged more for the granola bars without nuts.” That's what dynamic pricing is: the ability for a company to change the pricing of a product—that is, raise it—at a given moment. In her work as?FTC?chair, Khan draws both fire and praise for her view that the harms induced by antitrust behavior can go beyond consumer prices. I love this piece from Diana Budds about a new park opening on the Williamsburg waterfront in Brooklyn. It's a story about who gets access to public space that is increasingly boxed in by luxury condos. The solution in this part of Brooklyn it seems, is to balance the inevitable (residential towers where rent starts at $5,000 a month) with amenities that the whole community can enjoy. In her piece, Diana looks at how a former industrial strip of riverfront land has transformed into leisure luxury space, and asks the question: who is NYC's waterfront really for? https://lnkd.in/ehePnD_e
