At FAST (Food Access and Sustainability Team) Blackfeet, we are committed to enhancing food security and sovereignty within the Blackfeet Nation. Our efforts include operating the ō’yō’·?’ (We are Eating) Food Pantry and providing vital assistance through the ō’yō’·?’ On Wheels Mobile Food Pantry (OOW). We actively engage in nutrition education programs, organizing cooking classes that emphasize the importance of local and traditional foods. Our Food Pharmacy Program offers fresh produce vouchers, access to medical nutrition therapy with a dietitian, and comprehensive nutrition education for the Blackfeet Diabetes Prevention Program. Moreover, we are passionate about promoting food sovereignty through our Growing Health Program, which provides community members with gardening experiences, valuable resources, and educational workshops. Additionally, we prioritize incorporating locally sourced foods into our cooking classes and food pantry offerings, thereby fostering a more sustainable and culturally relevant food system for our community. By aligning with the #GiveNative campaign on Giving Tuesday, FAST Blackfeet aims to highlight the critical role of Native-led organizations in driving sustainable development within their communities. We recognize that the solutions to the challenges faced by the Blackfeet community must stem from within, acknowledging the importance of empowering and supporting Native-led initiatives.
