Developed by an ER nurse after witnessing the dangers of needlestick injuries firsthand, FASS is designed to improve safety and efficiency in high-pressure environments like the ER and psychiatric units, where patients can be agitated. In these settings, medications often require needle switching—one to withdraw from a vial and another to inject—due to their thickness or the need for mixing. Traditional manual switching wastes time and increases the risk of needlestick injuries, which still occur in 1 out of every 6,000 injections, often from uncapped needles in chaotic environments. FASS solves this by allowing a simple twist of the barrel to switch between needles, much like a color pen. It also features a safety mechanism that hides the needle after use and reduces plastic waste, offering a safer, faster, and more sustainable solution in acute care settings.

Exciting News for FASS! I’m thrilled to announce that FASS, our innovative multi-needle syringe, was selected as one of the seven winners of investment funding at FuzeHub’s Commercialization Pitch Competition, held this week at the New York State Innovation Summit in Syracuse. From hundreds of applicants, 12 finalists were chosen, and FASS was among those awarded funding. FuzeHub, known for supporting New York’s manufacturers and advancing impactful innovations, recognized the potential of FASS to transform injection processes in acute care. This achievement builds on incredible momentum gained this year, starting with customer discovery through New York I-Corps, which led to our participation in the Biomedical Pitch Competition Accelerator Program at Albany Medical College, where FASS won first place and received a cash grant prize. We have also been fortunate to receive invaluable product development support from Rev: Ithaca Startup Works, another New York-based accelerator program committed to nurturing early-stage startups. FASS then showcased at the HLTH Expo in Las Vegas as a NurseApproved company, creating valuable connections with healthcare stakeholders at the national level. Developed from my experiences as an emergency room nurse, FASS has the potential to significantly reduce needlestick injuries, thanks to its groundbreaking mechanism that simplifies the injection process and de-risks each step. This funding will accelerate our commercialization roadmap, helping FASS scale as we push towards FDA submission and clearance. Beyond safety and efficiency, FASS is designed to reduce the carbon footprint with a single-packaged solution, replacing the traditional multi-component system with a sustainable alternative that minimizes plastic waste.
